Part 10/12:
A significant issue is whether cultivated meat will be transparently labeled or secretly mixed with conventional meat products. Critics fear that without proper regulation, consumers might unknowingly consume genetically modified or lab-grown products labeled as traditional meat.
This concern echoes past experiences with genetically modified organisms (GMOs), where labeling is often non-existent or uninformative. Currently, the U.S. permits up to 92% of corn and 94% of soybeans to be genetically modified without explicit labeling, raising questions about the transparency of our food.
Educating consumers about the production processes and safety of cultivated meat remains an essential step. Otherwise, there's a risk of eroding public trust and making informed choices impossible.
