Perhaps the most mind-bending aspect of gravity is its influence on time. According to Einstein, gravity affects not only space but also the flow of time—a phenomenon known as gravitational time dilation.

Clocks placed in stronger gravitational fields run more slowly relative to clocks in weaker fields. For example, a clock on Earth's surface ticks slightly slower than one on a satellite in orbit. If you visited a massive black hole (which we don’t recommend!), time near the event horizon would move so slowly that, from an external perspective, your lifetime might seem compressed relative to someone far away.
