Signs of Imminent Catastrophe
Advances in satellite technology, such as InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar), have revealed disturbing signs of earth deformation. Raoul Island’s western flank, for example, is creeping seaward at about 15 centimeters annually, a precursor to potential landslides and collapses capable of generating local tsunamis.
