Part 11/13:
The glass surfaces, especially the plexiglass canopy, received special attention. The team conducted careful hand-polishing with cerium oxide to reduce fogginess and scratches, improving visibility without introducing new defects. They showcased the contrast between new and aged plastic, revealing how ultraviolet exposure and time bleach the original coloring—a phenomenon similar to skin sunburn—causing plastic to fade and oxidize.
This process involved multiple polishing passes, adjusting pressure and speed to avoid gouging or damaging the soft plexiglass. The aim was to make the windows clearer and more functional for racing and viewing purposes.
