Homelessness and poverty have surged; street scenes show groups of unemployed and homeless individuals sleeping outdoors in areas like Zong Hua West Village. Many young workers who moved here seeking opportunities have been forced onto the streets after factories relocated to Southeast Asia—many to Vietnam and beyond—leaving entire industrial parks vacant and abandoned.
