The Future of Disney’s Classics
The signs are ominous. As Disney announces remakes of Moana, The Little Mermaid, and others that are not even twenty years old, it’s clear that the studio’s nostalgia credit is exhausted. These projects are more about platform content and safeguarding trademarks than about storytelling. The essence of the original stories—meaning, heart, and wonder—are increasingly sacrificed for visual spectacle and social messaging.
