Part 4/9:
While the House of Representatives overwhelmingly supported redistricting, Indiana’s Senate rejected it by a margin of 31-19, with the majority of Republican senators voting against the measure. This rejection was widely viewed as a capitulation to outside influences, possibly from national figures like Barack Obama, George Clooney, and Nancy Pelosi, who may have lobbied to maintain the status quo.
The decision to block redistricting had immediate consequences. In the wake of these votes, nearly every senator who opposed redistricting has lost their primary race. Trump-backed candidates swept through these critical races, delivering what many are calling an electoral bloodbath for rhinos—Republicans in Name Only—and establishment figures resistant to change.
