Part 4/15:
At the heart of this system was Georgia Championship Wrestling (GCW), which by the late 1970s had become one of the most influential regional promotions. Under the leadership of visionary booker Oolie Anderson—also known by his real name, Alan Rogowski—GCW built its reputation on an authentic, gritty style rooted in realism and storytelling. Turner Broadcasting’s acquisition of GCW’s Saturday night show in 1972, and its subsequent national reach via WTBS (Turner SuperStation), transformed the Georgia promotion from a local concern into a national powerhouse.
