Part 9/14:
Perhaps the most poignant part of the critique concerns Miyazaki’s family life. While his films champion innocence and family bonds, Miyazaki himself is portrayed as a neglectful, work-obsessed father. His children, especially his son Goro, suffered from his absence. Goro recalls a childhood largely devoid of his father’s presence, with Miyazaki preferring to teach him whittling over providing guidance or emotional support.
