Part 4/15:
When archaeologists examined the artifacts from Mohenjo-daro, a striking pattern emerged: three key objects appeared solely in this city—the Dancing Girl, the Priest-King, and the Pashupati Seal. Their exclusive presence suggests Mohenjo-daro was a hub of particular cultural or spiritual practices not shared with other major Indus sites like Harappa or Rakhigarhi.
The Dancing Girl: Cultural Identity
The Dancing Girl sculpture, originally found on a potsherd in ancient Bhirrana, finds its most refined expression here in bronze—a detailed, polished figure embodying cultural sophistication. Significantly, she appears nowhere else in the Indus Valley. This points to a unique local identity that persisted over millennia, symbolizing perhaps a cultural or artistic ideal.
