Fulan Devi’s tragic story begins in the 1960s, in rural India, where her family’s land was stolen by the powerful caste hierarchy. After her land was confiscated and her family brutalized—including her being beaten unconscious—the young girl faced relentless abuse and exploitation, including forced marriage to an older man, which she rejected vehemently.
Her struggles continued through years of violence, sexual assault, and abandonment. Fulan was raped, beaten, and kidnapped multiple times—each trauma compounding her desperation and anger.
