Subscriptions, therefore, can be misleading. Creators often wish for the ability to prune inactive subscribers, but instead, YouTube’s system assumes that a large subscriber count equates to ongoing relevance. However, many subscribers are disengaged, which leads to the misconception that growth is easier than it actually is.
This dissonance between perceived audience size and actual engagement fosters a false sense of stability. When new videos fail to garner sizable attention among subscribers, creators interpret this phenomenon as failure—adding to the cycle of discouragement.
