While the buos are air-drying, it’s a great time to prepare your pono syrup. In a small saucepan, combine two ponos, two cinnamon sticks, some orange peel, seven whole cloves, a pinch of salt, and ¾ cup of water. Heat this mixture over medium heat and allow it to dissolve.
After dissolving, turn off the heat and strain the syrup, setting it aside for later use.
Frying the Buos
To fry the buos, heat oil in a deep skillet. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the dough and press it down slightly. Fry until golden brown on both sides, ensuring they are cooked evenly. Once perfectly fried, remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
