To enhance the flavor, add two teaspoons of vanilla extract and a selection of spices: three-quarters of a teaspoon of ground cinnamon, one teaspoon of ground ginger, and a quarter teaspoon of nutmeg. If you have fresh nutmeg, grating it gives an outstanding flavor. Opt for powdered nutmeg if that’s what you have available.
When mixing, switch to a whisk and blend everything together slowly to avoid incorporating excess air, which can cause cracks in the pie during baking.
