Part 3/6:

Using a microplane or zester, grate the orange peel. This releases essential oils that add incredible flavor. Gently rub the zest into the sugar with your clean hands until the sugar takes on a sandy, orange hue.

Combining the Wet Ingredients

Now that you have your aromatic orange-sugar ready, it's time to add your wet ingredients. Move the mixture into a larger bowl to make mixing easier.

You’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup (or 120 ml) of vegetable oil (or a combination of 1/4 cup melted butter and 1/4 cup oil for a richer flavor)

  • 1/2 cup (or 120 ml) of milk (you can opt for non-dairy milk if needed)

  • 2 large eggs, ideally at room temperature for better mixing

  • 1/4 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice (fresh juice vastly improves flavor)
