A long way? Folks (including me) are exchanging work for $HBD which we can then use to pay for food and shops that accept $BTC and make a video and get rewarded in upvotes.
I this not an example of exchanging value for value right now?

It is but it depends on how much you value your time and put a $ value to it. I still feel we are far off of it actully replacing it. It's more of a sub-side hustle at the moment. At least for many.
Yeah I agree, I think web 3 is a pass time for a lot of folks. They might blog and earn a few dollars here and there. I also think if you have a very valuable skill ands you solve a problem for a web 3 company, you can find a high paying job in crypto; Today. The same goes for building a solution yourself and selling it to the public.
