The gold sycee is the symbol of wealth and prosperity prominently portrayed in annual lunar New Year's celebrations.
If that gold sycee was real, this poor fellow would have a stiff back this morning. Lol!

I did not know who he was representing! Thank you so much for this information; I've updated my blog post to include the name of Caishen (财神). 🙏
I believe he is part of the Sanxing trio of luck, Fu, Lu, and Shou representing fortune, prosperity and longevity. My grandmother had the three figurines in her home, I thought they were a singing group when I was little.
