RE: Hive: The Epitome of the Attention and Ownership Economy

in LeoFinance6 months ago

I'm more interested in the ownership aspect of this than the attention aspect. I agree that some degree of attention is necessary to turn a profit as an owner on your Hive account, however, it requires MUCH LESS attention than monetizing a Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube account. Where before you needed hundreds of thousands or millions of followers to make a buck, with Hive, you can do so with a few hundred. That's a HUGE difference. And it costs less than owning a domain name for one year. How incredible is that?

The point you miss is that, without attention, the value of the tied to your ownership will be minimal. Attention is what generates the higher valuations, it is the network effect.

Without that, people own a lot of nothing.

I didn't miss it. I agree that attention is necessary, but I'm saying less attention is required than on Web2 platforms. On YouTube, for instance, you've got to have thousands of views before you can begin monetizing. You can't even monetize until you reach a certain threshold. Same on Twitter. On Hive, you can begin to monetize on Day 1 without making money for some founder first. Okay, the monetization will be minimal. Minimal is more than zero. As attention to your contributions grow, so does your income. But it can start from Day 1.
