Fiat currencies such as the dollar or euro have always been a source of controversy within crypto communities. Firstly, cryptocurrencies have decentralization as one of the central agendas, while state currencies are centralized in the hands of the State, thus enabling market manipulation, embargoes and confiscations. Secondly, there is a division in the community, where one party believes that the value of one crypto should only be quoted in another crypto (such as assessing the value of Hive in BTC, or the value of FOX in ETH). Ignoring this kind of community dualism and polemics to talk only about the reasons why it is important to offer monetization in the form of fiat currencies, let's try to understand what is the need to maintain support for a fiat currency within the Odysee.
Of course, it is a very superficial analysis, made only thinking about the context and the advantages of facilitating the use of dollars within the platform. That said, I found four points that apparently generate a great advantage for the platform. All of this is based on my personal perception, and it could be wrong, but these are the most relevant points I found.
That said, let's get to the analysis.
Understanding
I brought many of my friends to Odysee, and the vast majority had no idea what cryptocurrencies were, or even if they had any real value. At this point, being able to check the value of LBC online and knowing what the equivalence to everyday life is, helped them a lot to understand what they are doing.
Attractiveness
Systems where you can transact using fiat currencies will almost always be more attractive to the general public than blockchain systems of the same size. Imagine yourself as an ordinary content player on a streaming system, with the possibility to choose between a system that pays you in crypto and one that pays you in dollars. While you may be interested in blockchains and the like, in the end it's only your pocket that really matters, and honestly, if it's only your pocket that matters, you're going to look for what brings you the most return, and in that In this context, you will look not only for the one that brings the most money, but also the one that brings you the most convenience, and unless your earnings are very high, you are not going to make an effort to earn in crypto and then sell to get the dollar, since there is a possibility to earn the dollar directly.
In this scenario, it makes much more sense for LBRY and Odysee to offer the dollar payment service, as it brings to the platform a new option for payments and purchases, and greater versatility in the services that can be offered. As a centralized company with the aim of making a profit, it was a very assertive idea.
Hive, for example, does not need this device because its focus is not the average user, but people who are already inserted into the crypto universe, while Odysee focuses more on the common user, with little or no knowledge about cryptocurrencies, local where the presence of an element more familiar to the user's daily life helps him to become familiar.
Advertisements
The secret of any and all video streaming services is advertisements. At this point, Odysee is even lagging behind, as it doesn't have any form of ad-based monetization. However, monetization using fiat currencies opens a new door to this, allowing the creation of ad-based and dollar-payment monetization mechanisms in the future.
This brings to the platform new ways of interacting and monetizing content, making it more attractive to the average content writer. Of course, as, unlike YouTube, it's a service where anyone can create their own frontend, there's no point in placing infinite ads, as anyone could just create another frontend and continue with their videos without having any ads.
Direct exchange between LBC and dollar
One of the things people complain about the most at Odysee (and at LBRY in general) is the difficulty in obtaining liquidity from the resource. It is much harder to buy LBC than, say, ETH or another crypto (one of the reasons is the SEC vs LBRY case that I've mentioned a few times), which makes it difficult for many to if you buy content within the network.
One of the ways to circumvent this problem (and which has already been proposed as a possible implementation in a future version of the same) is for the platform itself to provide a way to exchange LBC for dollar, and vice versa. In this way, the platform facilitates the use and popularization of the token, which generates long-term benefits for the community.
Conclusion
Although it is a controversial topic that opens the door to platform instability and possible state control, at the present time the integration between Odysee and dollar payment systems is very beneficial, and can attract a significant share of content from other platforms, such as YouTube.

Em primeiro lugar, criptomoedas tem como uma das pautas centrais a decentralização, enquanto moedas estatais são centralizadas nas mãos do Estado, então possibilita manipulações de mercado, embargos e confiscos. Em segundo lugar, existe uma divisão na comunidade, onde uma parte crê que o valor de uma cripto só deve ser cotado em outra cripto (como avaliar o valor de Hive em BTC, ou o valor de FOX em ETH). Ignorando esse tipo de dualismo na comunidade e de polêmicas para falar unicamente dos motivos que tornam importante oferecer monetização na forma de moedas fiduciária, vamos tentar compreender qual é a necessidade de manter suporte a uma moeda fiat dentro da Odysee.
Claro que é uma análise bem superficial, feita pensando unicamente no contexto e nas vantagens da facilitação do uso de dólar dentro da plataforma. Dito isso, encontrei quatro pontos que aparentemente geram grande vantagem para a plataforma. Tudo isso é baseado na minha percepção pessoal, e pode estar errado, mas são os pontos mais relevantes que encontrei.
Dito isso, vamos para a análise.
Compreensão
Eu trouxe muitos dos meus amigos para a Odysee, e a grande maioria não fazia ideia do que eram criptomoedas, e nem mesmo se aquilo possuía algum valor real. Nesse ponto, poder conferir o valor do LBC online e saber qual é a equivalência ao quotidiano ajudou muito a eles entenderem o que estão fazendo.
Atratividade
Sistemas onde você pode fazer transações utilizando moedas fiduciárias quase sempre vão ser mais atrativos para o público geral do que sistemas blockchain do mesmo tamanho. Imagine-se como um conteudista comum de um sistema de streaming, com a possibilidade de escolher entre um sistema que te paga em cripto e um que te paga em dólar. Embora você possa ter interesse sobre blockchains e outras coisas do tipo, no final é apenas o seu bolso que realmente importa, e, sinceramente, se é só o seu bolso que importa, você vai procurar o que te traga mais retorno, e, nesse contexto, você vai procurar não apenas o que traz mais dinheiro, mas também o que te traz mais comodidade, e, a menos que seus ganhos sejam muito altos, você não vai se esforçar ganhando em cripto para depois vender para conseguir dólar, já que existe a possibilidade de ganhar o dólar diretamente.
Nesse cenário, faz muito mais sentido para a LBRY e a Odysee oferecerem o serviço de pagamento em dólar, já que traz para a plataforma uma nova opção de pagamentos e compras, e uma maior versatilidade nos serviços que podem ser oferecidos. Como uma empresa centralizada com o objetivo de obter lucro, foi uma ideia muito assertiva.
A Hive, por exemplo, não precisa desse artifício porque seu foco não é o usuário médio, mas sim pessoas que já estão inseridas dentro do universo cripto, enquanto a Odysee se foca mais no usuário comum, com pouco ou nenhum conhecimento sobre criptomoedas, local onde a presença de um elemento mais familiar ao cotidiano do usuário o ajuda a se familiarizar.
Propagandas
O segredo de todo e qualquer serviço de streaming de vídeos é as propagandas. Nesse ponto a Odysee está inclusive atrasada, já que não possui nenhuma forma de monetização baseada em anúncios. Entretanto, a monetização utilizando moedas fiduciárias abre uma nova porta para tal, permitindo que futuramente sejam criados mecanismos de monetização baseados em anúncios e com pagamento em dólar.
Isso traz para a plataforma novas formas de interação e de monetização para os conteúdos, tornando-a mais atrativa para o conteudista médio. Claro que, como, ao contrário do YouTube, é um serviço onde qualquer pessoa pode criar seu próprio frontend, não adianta colocar infinitos anúncios, já que qualquer um poderia simplesmente criar outro frontend e continuar com seus vídeos sem ter nenhuma propaganda.
Troca direta entre LBC e dólar
Uma das coisas que as pessoas mais reclamam na Odysee (e na LBRY no geral) é a dificuldade de se obter liquidez do recurso. É muito mais difícil de se comprar LBC do que, por exemplo, ETH ou outra cripto (um dos motivos é o caso SEC vs LBRY que eu já mencionei algumas vezes), o que torna, para muitos, difícil de se comprar conteúdo dentro da rede.
Uma das formas de se driblar esse problema (e que já foi proposta como uma possível implementação em uma versão futura da mesma) é a própria plataforma fornecer uma forma de se trocar LBC por dólar, e vice versa. Dessa forma, a plataforma facilita o uso e a popularização do token, o que gera benefícios a longo prazo para a comunidade
Conclusão
Embora seja um tema controverso e que abra uma porta para instabilidade na plataforma e para um possível controle estatal, no atual momento a integração entre Odysee e sistemas de pagamento com dólar é muito benéfica, podendo atrair uma fatia significativa dos conteudistas de outras plataformas, como YouTube.
