IS ALL TRULY FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR?
Russians can no longer pay for Netflix and Spotify with their bank cards. They also can no longer use Apple pay and Google pay. What this means is that electronic payments are down and the effect such actions could have on a society that relies heavily on the digital was witnessed in Moscow, where a disturbing crowd were queued up at the metro system, unable to commute and trying to find cash to make payment.
This begs the question: who really suffers the effect of actions like this? Unfortunately it is the people, the working class, the regular Russians who probably don’t want this war as we’ve seen a good number of them take to the streets in a protest against the war; it is the people who are forced to bear the brunt of the consequences of restrictions like this. But, this war and if fairness was an option then there wouldn’t be a war in the first place.
MORE SANCTIONS FROM BIDEN.
Here is the bigger fish; some days ago, Joe Biden as reported by Natasha Bertrand, (a CNN reporter covering the white house) has authorized additional sanctions and new restrictions on what can be exported to Russia.
These sanctions were chosen to maximize the long-term impact on Russia in the following ways:
a. Limit Russia’s abilities to do business in dollars, euros, pounds and yen to be part of the global economy, the idea is to stop the ability to finance and grow the Russian military.
b. Impair their ability to compete in a high-tech 21st century economy.”
c. Blocking four more major banks, thereby freezing every asset they have in America. This includes VTB, the second largest bank in Russia with 250 billion dollars in assets.
d. Strike a blow to Russia’s ability to continue to modernize their military, degrade their aerospace industry and their space program.
e. Hurt their ability to build ships thereby reducing their ability to compete economically.
Biden said: “Between our actions and those of our allies and partners, we estimate that we’ll cut off more than half of Russia’s high-tech imports.”
What these sanctions are designed to do is force Russia, a nuclear power into currency crises, basically. However these sanctions could take a long period of time, like two years or more to become effective. There are heavy arguments across the social media platforms the point remains that it will be the Russian citizens who will be hurt by these both those who want the war and those who do not.
Putin in his meeting with the minister of defense Shoigu and chief of general staff Gerasimov says the sanctions are illegitimate and has ordered to place Russia’s nuclear forces on special duty regimen. According to Putin: “Western countries aren’t only taking unfriendly actions against our country but leaders of major Nato countries are making aggressive statements against our country. So I order to move Russia’s deterrence forces to a special regime of duty.” Well, this order is clearly to make the West back down from taking ‘unfriendly actions’ against Russia.
Russia and Ukraine are reportedly now engaged in negotiations. Let’s hope for a better and peaceful outcome because I and the rest of the world can’t wait to put all these behind us. War is unnecessary and the outcome is never worth the damage done.
