InLeo - An improvement would be to add a variable voting bar instead of fixed percentage

in LeoFinance3 days ago

InLeo has become my first option on the User Interfaces available for the Hive blockchain. But as there are others UIs for that and some have quite nice features increasing the usability, I believe that we could do better in that regards also on InLeo. And one such feature that I am talking about is that instead of having a fixed percentage for upvoting different pieces of content - like posts, threads or shorts - we could have a variable voting bar that we can use to spread the vote for each piece of information that we read and that we want to curate. This way there will be a more diverse spread of our influence and voting and simply give rewards proportional to how much we liked the content or find it useful.

Current fixed voting percentages on InLeo

On the InLeo platform we currently can define in Settings the Default Vote Weight either for Threads, Posts and Shorts. While this offers some piece of customization, I believe that it is simply not enough. For example I don't want that the curation of all my votes on articles to be 100% and neither that the curation of all my votes on comments to be the same (we cannot even distinguish between posts and comments first hand). Thus, whenever I want to curate I need to go and switch the settings which is simply a lost of time and usability.

Proposed improved variable voting bar on InLeo

The proposed improvement was inspired by PeakD (https://peakd.com/@behiver) where you have a variable voting bar shown when you want to curate. You have also there a default that will be shown from the beginning, but on top of it you can adjust it based on the current digested content and afinity. And to tell you the truth, this is how it should be. The voting cast should be a decision at that moment and not defined and settled in stone from before.

I hope that this improvement will take shape sooner rather than later as it will increase the usability on the InLeo platform and it will allow their users to curate more diversely. Also with expansion in other ecosystems like Dash, it is quite the more important to have that granularity. Users want to control their vote mana and by allowing casting variable votes is the way to go. I hope this will echo up the ladder and we will see it to fruition.

Not sure, but think you get a slider if you set your vote percentage at 0.

I have noticed this to be true in the past, yes. Don't know if it still is because I have set fixed percentages.

You are right and setting it to 0, will show the slider where you can chose the voting power. Great observation and you've got a 100% vote for it. ;)

That's a good idea but the problem lies on whether InLeo developers will take notice and implement it. Fixed voting mana doesn't seem alright to me and little inconveniencing features like these are like a blot on InLeo. Nonetheless I'm certain Leo developers are doing their best for the platform. Thanks for writing.

This is a good one but will the new voting mama control work on only InLeo or every frontend of Hive?

I think someone already addressed it in the comments, but we do have both options, and people decides which one to use.

Going to settings and getting all to 0 gives you the slider to choose every time (it indicates that 0 disables the default percentages)

Just leaving it here in case other people in the comments is also confused about this feature.

Indeed, it works that way. "0 is disabled" doesn't say much imo, maybe there can be additional explanation that 0 allows you setting the voting power dynamically. It is just a note and would clear things greatly as myself I didn't figure it out. :)
