Have you ever filled one of those online applications where they request certain details like your race and your sexuality? I hardly ever understand why these details are important in a University or Scholarship application. Are these details considered necessary biodata for a world that prides itself on equality?

For a number of reasons, the release of these details has been seen as factors that determine an individual's fate before they get a chance to compete equally.

In several cases, individuals in certain minority groups like LGBTQ and those from selected races and religions have been placed in unhealthy life-threatening situations based on who they are.
Ignoring the much-acclaimed freedom of expression and association, many individuals who belong to these minority groups are forced to hide in order to gain the regard that they deserve based on their skills.

The blockchain, ever since its creation has been used by different aspects of society for the protection of details and individual information.

The world currently is big on privacy. This is why data-sharing companies like Facebook and Google are under constant troll by members of the public.

Individuals in these minority groups have, on several occasions, reported cases of cyberbullying from the top 5 social media channels; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Whatsapp, and Tiktok. This is a common trend.

Individuals data are not protected. Your profile does not belong to you. Google can easily access your search history anytime they feel like, and use your frequent activities for a sale or whatever they deem it relevant for.

How the blockchain stops this

A while ago, there was a trend with the #bitcoinstopsthis. Through that trend, a lot of important details were mentioned and a lot of people realized just how relevant bitcoin is to the world.

Blockchain and the Minority

Over 70 countries around the world have laws against the LGBTQ community. What's even worse is how even in countries where there are no laws against these communities; these individuals still receive the least amount of respect.
There are several ways through which the blockchain can and has aided in curbing the issue of disenfranchisement of members of this community and several other similar communities.

Through the privacy provided by various aspects of the blockchain, the future could be a better and safer place for them to thrive through anonymity and equal distribution of opportunities.

Social Networking

Through platforms like Hive, individuals of this community can thrive on a social interaction site where their sexuality is not called into question.
Through the privacy provided by the Hive Blockchain, individuals can easily enjoy the experience and also the rewards of a self-governing platform where individual responses are checkmated by other individuals on the platform and everyone has a governing share.

Web Surfing

Brave provides a Google replacement whereby your data and search history is protected and you get to earn some BAT coins in the process. By protecting your browser and search history through the blockchain it becomes less likely for your data to be used against you or sold.

Voting Process

There have been several cases where individuals of certain races or sexual or religious affiliations have been passed on for opportunities because their affiliation spoke ahead of them. Utilizing the blockchain for vetting processes would help mitigate this issue. Through a private voting process where the biodata of a person is kept anonymous, more qualified individuals would be taken into positions they deserve.

Wealth Distribution

Several fractions of the world have been in the constant squabble for equality in the distribution of wealth. In most cases, the value of a person's job is gauged according to who they are. Bitcoin stops this.

Through cryptocurrencies, individuals are opportune to receive the value of their work in full without any exceptions based on their orientation. Although the use of Know Your Client verification hinders this completely, it still doesn't pose a threat to the transparency that bitcoin provides.

Another financial threat that bitcoin averts is the seizure of funds belonging to individuals of a minority group. Through proper use of the blockchain, funds can be transferred anonymously without the identity of an individual provided. Transactions can be made without the release of any personal data.

Talent Sales

NFTs have been taking over the art and digital art scene in recent times. Several unknown artists have made some hefty sums through the sale of digital arts on online NFT stores. This is part of what makes NFTs and the entire blockchain unique and flexible.

The Blockchain and Underdeveloped Countries

It hasn't been so long ago since we heard about Cardano blockchain's collaboration with the Ethiopian government in order to create a system whereby their educational system could receive better international relevance.
From this story, it was gathered that some developing countries similar to Ethiopia have become so drenched in corruption that universities no longer deem their transcripts as proper proof of knowledge.

Several poor and underdeveloped countries would soon suffer the same fate as Ethiopia. However, Cardano has come up with an idea through which 3,500 schools would be permitted access to the internet in order to enable them to create their digital identities using an Atlas Prism.

The involvement and interest of the Ethiopian government in the use of a blockchain to solve a problem they currently face is proof of the many gains other similar countries can get from properly utilizing the blockchain.
Through this development, Cardano would be able to upload the educational details of several students alongside details of their educational history as they progress. This would provide some credibility to their credentials when submitted to international bodies.

For other poor countries like Venezuela, cryptocurrency is coming into their economy at a time where all hope seems lost in fixing their problems.

Although still in exile, Gabriel Jimenez, created the digital currency that he believes would be able to do what the government has failed to do in solving the economic woes of the country.

The proper utilization of the Blockchain can also aid these countries with easy international trades and improve social trust.

The death of economies leads to difficulty in utilizing fiat for international trades and sales. This leads us to the final part.

The Blockchain and Global Unity

Imagine a world where individuals are no longer represented by their race, religion, or sexual orientation, but rather by barcodes and numbers or usernames. Where everyone has an equal chance to compete for a global opportunity and not be pulled down by an aspect of their life that has nothing to do with their potential.

This is the world that can be provided when the utilization of Blockchain technology gains enough popularity among individuals and governments.
Blockchain technology is one step away from changing the world as we know it and introducing us to a new segment of reality. Through this, the world can be unified through representation and currency. It sounds like a brighter future for us and our kids.

The potential of Blockchain technology and cryptocurrency to liberate the poor and disenfranchised all over the world cannot be overemphasized! Imagine for instance, Nigeria conducting her entire electoral process through an e-voting system that utilizes the power of Blockchain technology, it would make a world of difference. Nice write up bro.

Hive will be able to do a lot of that. We have some infrastructure that needs to go into place. That said, we have a lot going for us.

Terrific article.

I've seen a lot of folks in disenfranchised communities kind of shit on crypto and bitcoin, because at face value it's just another part of the existing financial structures that have kept people down.

I've seen this particularly in the LGBTQ+ community, because as a trans person that's the community I'm part of.

But I think, as you said, that blockchain presents opportunities that LGBTQ+ and BIPOC folks and folks in oppressed governmental systems can particularly benefit from, so I try to take any opportunity I can to steer people in this direction and claim space for themselves.

I'm relatively new to crypto, having only gotten into it this past January, but so far Hive is checking nearly all of the boxes for tech that benefits disenfranchised people.

I'm so excited for the future this can bring about. Thanks for sharing your insights.

Hate to break it to you mate, but the blockchain is a load of wall street backed garbage and VC tech bros fucking around with pensioners' money and access to rolling over debt to sell people's dreams! There is no blockchain revolution, It all about selling stories, same way they sold socialism and central banking, there is no counterforce in any of these blockchains because they are all captured and will always turn into a collusion shit show

Blockchain technology will change a lot of things especial in human rights and equality.
