to try to make this as short as possible :) Podcasting Index is started by Adam Curry a guy kinda invented podcasting back in the day. The idea from my understanding was that ads limit and censor people and they wanted a Value 4 Value system. As they discovered bitcoin and lightning they seen the opportunity in implementing micropayments (in sats) into podcasting apps (there is a good number of apps that do it).
They were also trying to build a decentralized podcasting distribution (notification) system. (telling podcasting apps that your RSS feed for new episode is up).
This is where BrianOfLondon comes in. Most of them are BTC Maxies and had no idea what Hive can do. So BrianOfLondon build PodPing (decentralized podcasting distribution (notification) system) and gave it to them to play with.
3Speak decided to jump on board with giving everyone that uploads videos an RSS feed and that meant that every video uploaded is also indexed on all the podcasting apps that use PodPing for notifications. At the moment there are 63 podcasting apps on Podcasting index.
so every video you upload on 3speak goes on podping and all apps that use it as notification system.
Other cool thing that happened was connecting Hive with BTC Lightning Network.
For you to get micropayments from pod. apps you would have to run the Lightning node. From what i heard it is not fun to do that.
But with videos uploaded on 3Speak you don't need to run an Lightning node. Sats that people donate to you on those apps are converted from Sats to Hive/HBD and go strait to your Hive wallet.
And i think that is not a bad idea for people that do podcasts about crypto. People now have the option to donate 0.10$ per episode, and that is not possible in the fiat system. But they can also send you 50$ per episode, because there is no limit and everyone can support as much as they can and want (Value 4 Value)
podfriend and CurioCaster support video (from apps i tested). Fountain is testing "going live" notifications. The idea is that using Hive and PodPing all those 63 apps will get notification when you go live. So your followers can use any of the apps they like and get notified that you are live.
I think Odysee could also implement that if they wanted.
