You should. They do daily tournaments and are in active development with a deep pipeline of content.
People are sleeping on it.
Is hive a good place to start with them or another blockchain?
I don't think it matters.

I think the only issue with Hive is you have to use Hive-engine right now, but the lead dev is working on getting everything connected to darkcloaks.io right now.
