I think it is a good way to encourage people to power up. Some people don't see the immediate benefit, so making an event of it is a way to gain interest. It is also good publicity to show the public that people are investing in the platform. We need more good users right now more than we need the people who are already invested powering up. I am happy to save up all of my rewards and participate once a month.
