World Mobile Token is a DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network) similar to Helium and XNET, but with a greater focus on providing wireless services to underserved and remote regions globally.
In today's post, we will briefly cover World Mobile's multichain expansion, their 2025 project updates, WMTX token utility, as well as some caveats you need to consider before investing in DePIN projects.

Multichain Expansion
Initially minted on the Cardano blockchain, World Mobile migrated to their own blockchain (a Cardano sidechain) in 2024, and then expanded their token (WMTX) to Base and Solana to enable broader reach and foster ecosystem growth.
2025 Project Updates
The public launch of Unity to the Google Play store happened on October 31st. This marked the public roll-out of Unity - a global, composable, people-powered verification layer for the telecom grid.
Unity nodes decentralize telecom auditing by replacing centralized firms with a distributed mesh of mobile devices performing "proof-of-work" tasks like verification of calls, route pings, and fault detection.
By December, the World Mobile community had deployed 93,000 AirNodes (devices that provide last-mile wireless access to end-users).
On November 25th, WMTX was listed on Coinbase, increasing the token's liquidity and expanding its accessibility.
WMTX staking was enabled on April 18, 2025 on the World Mobile Cardano sidechain. EVM-compatible staking (e.g. on Base) followed shortly after the multichain expansion in September 2025. The APY for staking is about 5%.
WMTX Token Utility
WMTX key utilities and roles include:
Powers all network transactions: Every call, text, and megabyte of data used on the network is a transaction settled with WMTX.
Rewards the builders: The AirNode and "EarthNode" operators who are providing coverage and securing the network are rewarded in WMTX for their efforts. EarthNodes are essentially blockchain validators, but with added telecom-specific responsibilities.
Staking: Holders can stake their WMTX to help secure the network and earn a share of the rewards.
Benefits from real-world usage: A portion of revenue from phone plans and data usage is used to buy back WMTX from the market, creating a link between real-world growth and the token supply.
Caveats
As with all DePINs, it's important to consider the initial token allocation. Large allocations to the team, investors, and other insiders could negatively affect the project in the future.
Also, consider that competition in the space is fierce with Helium, XNET, Karrier One and others vying for wireless market share. That said, considering how nascent the DePIN space is overall, all these networks have room for growth.
Until next time...
The World Mobile community is working diligently to roll-out decentralized wireless infrastructure, with a focus on underserved and remote areas. While the project appears to have significant potential, be sure to do your own research before investing.
