If there is still internet, there is still crypto transactions. I can encode a bitcoin transaction in a love letter.
But, that is only a stop-gap, as we will soon have inter-webz everywhere on earth, wirelessly. Goes from anywhere to anywhere.
It is coming. I believe you will live to see it.
However, there are countries who are really going tyrannical, and we are already self censoring on social media. And that is bad.
Do you think you can outsmart AI? I don't think so, and I don't think enough will to maintain the value of their crypto. Further, the surveillance we are under will ascribe to us social credit scores, and our comms will be limited. Sending love letters to parka vendors in Novosibirsk will draw scrutiny and we whom have spoken out forthrightly to oppose evil overlords will be prevented from spending our assets. Because the data flows through their pipes and we are well characterized by AI, we personally can be censored, love letters and all.
Best I can do right now is meshcore, which has grown rapidly to impressive breadth lately, as the increasing threat of censorship becomes more apparent. Depending on materials and terrain, a reasonable expectation of the low power LoRa transmission used for meschcore and meshtastic may be ~30 miles with line of sight. Over mountains, not so much. Better tools will come, I am sure, but the tools at hand are the ones we have to use right now, in our exigency. I cannot assure anyone the web will be available without KYC, AML, and NYT for even one more minute.
That would be nice, but you may not be fully informed as to my health, my friend.
Unfortunately Oz, where Upscrolled's servers are located IIRC, is one of them. All the EU are others. The UK is perhaps the worst censorial regime on Earth, imprisoning ~3k people a year for posting memes. Cops are already knocking on doors here in the states to caution folks for posting their forthright opinions, despite the First Amendment applying to them as government agents, and that is exactly how the UK started a few years ago. You are right. That is bad.
We don't have a better tool I am aware of to maintain comms than meshcore ATM, and it's looking like now is when we need it. Keep me apprised of better tools should you hear of any. I would very much like them to be at hand while we can still think and speak without parroting the nanobots surveilling us from within our heads.
