Coming soon, advanced whale charming class...

“Figure out what it is you want to be, then surround yourself with people that are successful at being that.” I look back on this piece of advice and find I still believe it today. It was given to me by a pastor in a church years ago, and whether you’re religious or not, the principle still has merit. It’s true, and wealthy people know it. What do you think happens to a wealthy person that fills their life with poor friends? Before long they’re going broke supporting them. The reverse truth isn’t as obvious, religious people are able to take it on faith.

There are truths in this world that aren’t easily explained with logic, this just happens to be one. I spent most of my life surrounding myself with the wrong people, and always ended up in the wrong places and doing the wrong things.
Crypto enthusiast social communities allow us to realize this principle in a more powerful way than has ever been possible, except by extreme luck, in our world.

If you want to learn how to make money, learn from someone that’s really good at it. By writing posts, and engaging on #hive, or any of the 2nd layer community products, we have the opportunity to befriend people that have already successfully made fortunes on #hive, and other blockchains.

Even if you’re not able to create a 1on1 relationship with some of these whales, just reading and commenting on their posts will often reward you with new information, but it opens the door for more meaningful relationships.

Ten years from now, I want to be hanging out on the deck of my sailboat with a bunch of my wealthy hive contacts, getting pro tips from guys that are smarter than I am. This isn’t that far-fetched.

Time to change the tone though, this isn’t just a post of greed. Building relationships for the sole purpose of making money seems empty.

The nature of this platform makes it about money, and social engagement rewards us in this manner. I want to use hive to build lasting relationships, and the financial benefits will be an extra reward. The only way to do this is through engagement, but just building connections through blogging isn’t deep enough. If you’re like me and you’re looking to build lasting connections with like-minded people, click my discord link at the bottom and come find me!

What are your goals? What is it you are trying to accomplish through #hive, and how can other people on here help you? It may be that through engagement, you stumble on to an opportunity, and before you know it you’re a project or community founder. The skies are the limit, and community engagement can empower us beyond what we think we’re capable of. So, read more posts and drop more comments, they’re even going to pay you to do it!

Find someone who is where you want to be. We all want to be where the whales are, so it's a matter of having access to them. If we can't be with them, we can at least keep on top of their thoughts and ideas as they post or comment.

Just as effective-- maybe more effective-- is finding someone who has as much time as you here but has achieved more. It could be someone with double the followers, or someone who has earned more from posts or comments or both. Whatever metric you want to use, see how that person reached the goal you want for yourself.

Wherever you want to be, find someone who has already been where you are and done more.

Absolutely, having access to successful people is key. I feel like this is the true hidden value of hive. I was afraid I failed to communicate that one key point in this post (and it was really the entire point), but I see you got it. My sincere thanks for the valuable feedback!

...the true hidden value of hive.

This looks like the title of a new post or even a series of posts. You may have struck gold (or HIVE) there!

None of us will be spending time with Warren Buffett or Elon Musk or even Mark Cuban. However, the next best thing is to learn from them by the examples they set and by the body of knowledge they leave behind in the form of written works or multimedia content.

For most Leos and Hivers, we won't get the opportunity to meet many face-to-face. So the next best thing for us is to engage with those we encounter who are in a place where we want to be later. We're all here for many reasons, but one reason we're here is to become more successful. It doesn't even matter how we define success, but it matters how each of us defines success for ourselves.

If we can find people here who found a way "to live the dream"-- or at least make progress toward it from where they were a few months before-- then we should study how they did that, adopt their good habits, avoid their bad habits, and apply those lessons to our own situations.

well said! seems like I should have spent a while longer writing that post. the true hidden value of hive should have actually been the title, and the tone should have been more like your reply. I'll get better at this blogging stuff.

I'm still trying to figure out this blogging thing, too, and we're both in good company there.

We all make our mistakes, so it's best to get them out of the way now so that we can learn from them sooner rather than later. Then again, we learn more from our mistakes than if we had done things correctly.

Right, i think what i really need is a friend that's a good peer reviewer. Input like this is always better to have before you publish.
