Leveling Up Hive's Frontend... Small Changes, Big Impact

in LeoFinance13 hours ago

A few days ago, I started seeing Snaps and Dbuzz posts from another Hive user promoting their SocialFi project built on top of Solana. It made me curious about the kind of development happening over there at the moment. I thought that if a two-person team could build a SocialFi platform showcasing the same type of product as Hive’s SocialFi, then there must be more teams creating similar platforms, what I would call Hive competitors, or even “Hive-killers,” in this space. Sure enough, a quick Google search revealed plenty of lists of SocialFi, GameFi, and basically every kind of Web3 social media dApp imaginable. There’s clearly a boom in dApp development on Solana, Polygon, and many other protocols. It made me feel like I’d been living under a rock, realizing that my understanding of Web3 development has already fallen behind.

Will this be a doom-and-gloom post? No, definitely not. Let me clarify: the intention of this post isn’t to discourage anyone here, but rather to encourage everyone to step up and innovate in the areas of Hive that I feel need attention right now. Deep down, I know Hive’s blockchain technology is superior, and its fundamentals are very strong. However, we need to communicate that effectively to the masses and to potential investors.

The list of things to improve is long, UX, onboarding, frontend experience, engagement, and more. But for this post, I want to focus on frontend improvements that could be implemented by the dApps here in Hive. These are just suggestions based on what I’ve observed in the new, shiny SocialFi apps built on Solana. I believe these changes could significantly enhance the appeal and impact of Hive’s platforms for potential new users.

Before talking about Hive's dApps, let’s first take a look at Hive’s landing page. In previous years, this kind of landing page would have been very exciting for a new user to see, and it would likely have convinced them to sign up. However, I think it now lacks the dynamic information that can spark excitement and motivate visitors to participate in the platform.

To better amplify Hive’s message of being fast, scalable, and powerful, we should showcase dynamic statistics on the landing page, such as DAUs/MAUs (Daily or Monthly Active Users), daily or monthly rewards distributed (with $0 fees), number of active dApps, and so on. Even simple stats like Total Writers, All-Time Posts, or All-Time Comments, which I believe could be in the billions by now, would create a strong impression on visitors.

i.e. A stats that keeps on updating to showcase the overall activity in the social platform.

Similarly, each of Hive's dApps could highlight their own DAUs or MAUs, total rewards distributed, and other relevant metrics. These kinds of statistics can give users a clearer picture of just how powerful and scalable Hive really is, by showcasing the overall activity across the Hive ecosystem and within the individual dApps themselves.

i.e. A showcase of rewards, recommend bloggers, or maybe a leaderboard will add some excitement to the bloging page.

i.e. Leaderboard showcasing onboarded users, interactions, and rewards distributed.

I know that Hive’s presence on Web2 platforms is also a very strong way to tell the world about our platform. Because of that, the landing page could also highlight this information and dedicate a section showing where people can learn more about Hive. It could include links to Hive’s Medium, YouTube, X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and so on.

Hive has come a long way, but there’s still so much potential waiting to be unlocked. By innovating together and continuously improving how we present ourselves to the world, we can strengthen Hive’s position in the Web3 space. The future of Hive depends on our collective creativity and willingness to evolve.

Hive has so many possibilities, but I think very few people are interested in developing or updating Dapps.

I agree, even from steem days, so many projects were abandoned. Projects that actually had great use and lots of effort. Being open source, I thought users will take control and push them into the Hive ecosystem, but very few did.

Exactly, so many good ideas were left behind. Hopefully, this new wave brings fresh energy to revive them.

True, there’s so much untapped potential, we just need more builders to step up and innovate. 💪
