You know, there's a popular saying that "practice makes perfect"

but the actual saying is "practice makes mastery". You don't get perfect, you just become a master of that endeavor. Cooking, Baking, Toasting, Speaking, Reading, Marketing... but then
how long does it take to gain mastery?
Two years... Five years.years... A decade... The simple answer?
As Long As it is Needed.
The moment you cease to continue writing, to continue singing, to continue playing that instrument, to continue that work... You stop learning and the moment you stop learning, you stop growing and no growth will result in death. Not physically but within which is worse. So consciously make that effort to continue in that field, profession, skill... continue to learn, grow and become better so you will gain mastery.

Practice doesn't make perfect, it makes mastery
