After what seems an eternity, the wait is finally over. @Khal and Co. finally announced today that the much anticipated #PolyCUB platform is launching in less than 4 hours. If you read his announcement post here, I think it's pretty obvious the entire #LeoFinance team is very excited about what they're bringing to the table. I have a feeling that Khal has been living, eating, breathing, and sleeping #PolyCUB for months now and it's finally time to see if Frankenstein's monster will have the life he's been imagining all this time.
For my take, I wouldn't bet against him.

If you've been around for the last year, you know that this has been a massive undertaking. It's been pushed back and delayed and paused and delayed and pushed back over and over again for one simple reason: he wanted to get it right.
Best Defi Platform in Existence?
And not just right. He wants to make this the single best defi platform in existence. Again, reading from the announcement post,
Our team has worked incredibly hard on PolyCUB. It is the most complex and exciting platform that we have ever built and it is going to change everything for our Web3 Ecosystem. PolyCUB's backend works on nearly 20 smart contracts. We've pulled designs and inspiration from all of the top DeFi platforms to create what we believe is the grandaddy of all DeFi Yield Optimizers.
There is simply nothing like PolyCUB out there in the DeFi industry.
That's a pretty amazing statement. Not only have they spent months researching other platforms and cherry-picking the best aspects of all of them, they have now integrated them all into one platform designed to be:
...a self-sustaining base of operations for CubFinance on the Polygon Network.
Keyword: self-sustaining. If you all remember, #CUB launched a year ago next week. It was #LeoFinance's first foray into defi and there were definitely some mistakes made. For one thing, the price rocketed into the double digits and then spent the next 10 months steadily falling until it bottomed out in the 25 cent range. The tokenomics could not be sustained as first built.
But instead of throwing up their hands and hiding, Khal and his team went to work. They fixed the tokenomics allowing #CUB to at least maintain it's value as a yield farm. They couldn't go back in time and fix the price, of course, because the damage had already been done, but there were no rug-pulls and anyone either dollar-cost-averaging or buying in new should have done remarkably well over the last few months if they've been HODLing.
Biggest reason I'm investing in PolyCUB
As with almost every single important lesson in life, the best of them are learned the hard way. The #LeoFinance learned the hard way with their release of #CUB. But, to me, that just gives me more confidence and excitement about what they're releasing tomorrow. The trust this team has built over the last 2+ years has not been given freely. This team has earned every bit of it. When things went south with #wLEO at the beginning, they fixed it and made it right with their supporters. When #CUB couldn't be sustained as built, they fixed it and made it right with their supporters. They've been accessible, as transparent as possible, and accountable for what they are doing every step of the way.
THAT more than any other reason, is why I'm super-excited to be a part of this launch tomorrow. I know, as much as anyone can know, that these guys have put in the time and the effort to make this platform as flawless as possible. This is a community I'm proud to be a part of because the people leading the way are doing everything in their power to make it successful. And when things don't go as planned, they fix whatever needs fixing.
How I'm Preparing
So, for tomorrow,
- I've made sure my metamask has the Polygon Network set up and working;
- I've added some MATIC so I can pay the fees if I want to do anything there (also for LPs);
- I've added some liquid LEO so I can bridge it over if I want to pool pLEO with anything;
- I've harvested all my CUB rewards and put them in the Kingdom to maximize my airdrop;
- And I've researched how and where to get some USDC if I decide I need it.
The wait is finally over. #PolyCUB has finally arrived. #Wen and #Soon have become a real moment in time. If this platform can perform even half as well as Khal seems to think it can, then this is not only a game-changer in defi, it could quite possibly be a life changer for the #LeoFinance community.

Well, the question is going to be can you get MATIC on Polygon Chain without having any to start with? I mean, if you bridge over some LEO (which will become pLEO, obviously) can you then swap that pLEO into MATIC without having any MATIC there to pay the swap fees?
Does Hive-Engine have swap.matic? That would be helpful if it does...

Yup! There is an easy-ish way to do that!
Tribal dex has a SWAP.HIVE <-> SWAP.MATIC pool so you can just go Hive -> swap.hive -> swap.matic and withdraw to your Polygon address

Yes, you can get MATIC from Coinbase. That's where I got mine. Your other option is to use LEO. You can wait for PolyCUB to launch, bridge some LEO over to pLEO, and then swap some of that pLEO for MATIC on the PolyCUB platform.
I put like 150 MATIC into my Polygon Chain metamask wallet by getting it from Coinbase, but I will also be using some pLEO to get some more (if I want to pool it with MATIC) once it launches.
That said, when I moved my MATIC from Coinbase to metamask, I ended up sending it to my Ethereum wallet rather than my Polygon wallet. It gave me a few nervous moments trying to figure out why it didn't show up. I ended up having to "bridge" it over from the ETH chain to the Polygon chain. It wasn't difficult but it probably cost me a few dollars. Just thought I'd point out what happened to me in case anyone else runs into the same issue.

I think I got enough MATIC to cover a few transactions so I might just wait for things to go live. Depending on how things go, I guess I can always bridge a little bit of LEO to trade into MATIC if needed.

Yes, I actually already had some MATIC just because, so I've just held onto it since they announced they were doing PolyCUB. I don't have a ton but, like you, I figure if I need more I can get it by bridging over something from HIVE.
