Exploring the Top Hive Frontends: A Comparative Analysis | Dec 20022

in LeoFinancelast year

Hive offers multiple frontends for its social apps and users to interact with. This gives the users the freedom to choose their favorite one. Some of them filter out the content and focus just on a specific content.
Hive is showing how much constrained we are on traditional web2 apps like twitter. I use multiple frontends on Hive for different purpose and really like the freedom to shift between them and select what I want.

Let’s take a look of the posting on the top hive frontends and their individual share.

01.png

We all know blogging dApps are not the only ones build on Hive. Games are taking advantage of the Hive blockchain and we are already seeing more of them build each day. Splinterlands opened the gate for games on Hive, and now we have many more.

Here we will only be looking only into the blogging apps:

  • Peakd
  • Ecency
  • Hive.blog
  • LeoFinance
  • 3Speak
  • Liketu
  • Actifit

The period that will be analyzed is 2022.

We will also rank the top frontends by number of in the last 30 days.

Peakd

According to the data the most used Hive frontend.
Here is the chart.

image001.png

An overall downtrend in the numbers of posts coming from PeakD in 2022. This is in correlation with the price trends. At the beging of the year there was 1600 daily posts coming from PeakD and now we are at around 1000.

Ecency

Ecency has been around for a long time as well. They have a very good frontend as well. Some say it is the fastest ones. One the best apps included.

image005.png

We can notice the downtrend here as well, but not as much as for PeakD. Actually, in the summer there was a period with the numbers going up. The year started with around 800 posts per day and now we are at around 600.

Hive.Blog

The generic Hive frontend. Its open source as well. Here is the chart.

image003.png

Hive.Blog seems to have the strongest drop in posts from the top three frontends. At the beginning of the year there was around 1000 daily posts and now this number is bellow 400.

When we plot the top 3 against each other we get this.

image019.png

We can notice that Ecency has been holding the best from the top three. Peakd and Hive.Blog have seen some bigger drops, especially the Hive.Blog frontend.
Its interesting to see this development, because at the early days, Hive.Blog, or the previous chain, it was the only frontend around. Now it is being surpassed by others.

LeoFinance

The chart for LeoFInance.

image007.png

Leofinance is holding quite well in the overall market conditions. It almost has the constant numbers of daily posts coming from it. Not an increase, but not a drop eighter. Around 150 daily posts coming from leofinance in 2022.

3Speak

The number of posts/videos from the Hive video platform.

image009.png

The video platform on Hive, 3Speak. A visible downtrend here with the number of daily posts going from 250 at the beginning of the year to around 100 now. There is a lot of oscillation here so at times this number is at 150.

Actifit

Another short form app.

image013.png

Actifit is one of the first Hive apps. It is a fitness app where users share their step counts per day. A move2earn. Quite a steady number of posts from Actifit with numbers around 250 posts per day. There was a jump in the numbers back in March, this was around the time when some other move to earn apps appeared on the market.

Number Of Posts From All Hive Frontends

Here is the chart for all the Hive frontends posts per day combined.

image017.png

We can see the overall downtrend here as well. The top three, PeakD, Ecency and Hive.Blog are dominant, with hive.blog loosing its share quite a lot throughout the year. Some new apps have established itself in 2022 like Liketu.

Top Hive Frontends In The Last Month

Here is the chart for the overall number of posts from the top Hive frontends the last 30 days.

image021.png

PeakD is the most used Hive frontend now by. Ecency comes on the second spot and then it is hive.blog in the third position. Interesting the somee app is there as well.
Actifit, Leofinance, 3Speak in the top as well.

While there is an overall downtrend in the posting, it is interesting to see that different app on Hive perform differently. The blockchain is not that monolithic anymore, and it is far from the one site app that it was back in the old chain days.
Ecency seem to have performed the best from the top three. Hive.blog has dropped the most. Leofinance has seen a consistent numbers, not showing any drop at all. Actifit has also been consistent.
There are more than 50 apps being used to make a post in the last 30 days.

All the best

Ecency has the best mobile app, I don’t think the other give such a good experience on mobile’s

Would love to see this but with comments from the UI

I wonder how Threads has impacted daily comment numbers from the LEO UI

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yea I think that would be interesting to. Will compose a chart with top UIs

Not enough people are using LeoFinance. We need to pump these numbers.

Wow interesting analysis. For my few days on this platorm, I have already interacted with few of the frontends and the one that caught my attention is the Liketu frontend. Ecency is an amazing one too and the numbers from your analysis has said it all. I used it for my introduction post and I will rate it 9/10.

Good to know the most leading frontends on hive. I have been using Ecency since I joined Hive. But finding it difficult to use PEAKD. I will like to learn it please.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

idk what it is but I just don't like using peakd front end I find it old fashioned lol

I do like enecy I think they did a heck of a job in both UI, smoothness and onboarding and both of these platforms show it's possible to do.

Interesting to see how far leo is down and how much room there is for growth there. Curious on the new UI and a focus on threads if we see a push that starts to challenge peakd and ecency.

Great write up - depressing isn't it that posting correlates with price - what I mean by depressing is that even here in cryptoland people have such irrational knee-jerk approaches!

I mean we all know the best time to post for rewards is when other people aren't posting!

I know that for a fact ... take a look at my authors reward

HIVE up, dollars down... and the opposite during the bull

I love this chart @dalz!

Now imagine if Leo ad burns make a comeback 😭

I hear it will be soon :)

What is the Somee frontend for? General or targeted content?

Somee was a separate crypto social media app. Twitter like. I don't know this for sure, but it looks like they are trying to get on the Hive blockchain. I think they were Ethereum based before.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Thanks! They definitely are trying to get on Hive if they have over 5k top-level posts in December already.

It's general. It looks like Facebook with a twist. It is also like Twitter, Threads, and Dbuzz which allows micro-posting.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Ok, that's getting interesting...

I really don't know

Good to see hive in on top. Peakd is very famous dapp on hive people's like to use it. Hive is better than Twitter and Facebook. People's create his original content and earn some money and bear his expenses. Hopefully incoming bull market sprinterland and hive coins prices break his all time. I also mostly use peakd and actifit app. Thanks for sharing your valuable review about hive Blockchain.

Awesome work with Report and analysis. Pretty sure LeoThreads will turn the table upside in 2023.

great and interesting overview

Thanks for this good job

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

U welcome!

i use peakd for writting posts and ecency for comments, those both are the best options out there!

liketu is also stepping hard for the support they are providing to the community!

Great insights as usual
I had a gut feeling that PeakD was indeed the most used frontend but it is nice to see the actual numbers

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Great, informative piece. I love the graphs as they illustrate the numbers very well 😁💙

Am pretty good with eccency but will try other frontend this time . The multiple frontends on hive makes it very unique.

Well, ecency is fastest and many users using it but I am Using peakd which is convenient for me. Anyway, The best time to post on hive is during bear market but these users not understanding it but we keep accumulating 🤚

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

pretty low numbers :O

For me, Ecency and Leofinance are the best for me. I only use Peakd when it comes to checking my hive engine tokens.

Soon you will be able to check Engine tokens on your app. I see devs working on it!

Alright. That's great to hear. Thank you 😊

These Frontends have been very helpful in the blockchain.

Great data this.
Ecency has come a long way and holds strong leverage with the mobile app.

All frontends are very good and easy to use, but I use Ecency more

interesting data!
!1UP

Good to see SoMee occupying the 5th place.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Leofinance got my fantasy from my first day on Hive! I don't know if it's because of the content there or because of the UI

Nice and insightful data presentation

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

This is great information to me and I hope to others too. I am using just few, hive.blog, esency, Leofinace, i have to learn how to use others as soon as possible. Learning things like this helps newbies to know that Hive blockchain is great and big.
@dalz, i appreciate this so much

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Cool top and I didn't know about some of the interfaces. On the other side, some are more specialized than others (like liketu which is used for photos), thus it is not a 1:1 comparison.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Which ever frontend one chooses, #hive is simply a nice place to be . Freedom is the first thing on hive.
Thanks for this analysis and merry Christmas.
#LeoFinance

I use all of them except actifit, very nice post. I use my cell phone a lot so I use Ecency a lot
