In summary, realistic goals are which you can achieve considering your skills, level of motivation and timeframe.

It is important to set realistic goal as when our goal is too far from our reach, we could get demotivated.

Goals help build confidence and self esteem. Ambitious goals help us improve our self belief and give us a sense of purpose.
It gets easy when we know we are going and how we going to get there.
Now with realistic goals, achieving it, it gives us self confidence. We become more confident in our abilities.
Keeps Motivated
Having achievable goals keeps us on motivated having our eyes on the prize.
The closer you get to your goals, the more you get motivated and the harder you will work for it to achieve.
Decision Making
Some people find it hard to make a decision. They make a bunch of decisions daily.
Having a clear and realistic goal makes the process of decision making easier for you.
New Opportunities
Goals that are unrealistic are like you being lost in a forest with no map. It's easy to get frustrated when you have no destination to reach.
Goals help you open to many opportunities which you haven't experienced before or didn't cross your mind before.
