A Year Of Hive - From $0.11 To $1.84 (With A Brief Top At $2.87)

Exactly one year ago, on December 27th 2020, HIVE was trading at $0.11. Now it trades at 16x that value, meaning $1.84. At some point during this journey, in November, it traded as high as $2.87. These are just average numbers recorded by Coingecko, it may be possible that in some exchanges HIVE was trading above that.

For the uneducated crypto visitor, this would seem like a no brainer. Too easy. Let's just ape in and brag. Wen lambo? Wen moon?

But for those sticking around for more than 3-4 years, this picture tells a very different story.

Here's how.

At $0.11 a basic witness node can't cover expenses. If you want a decent failover setup, it will be considerably more. So, for the times when HIVE was at $0.11, you had to pay out of your own pocket almost the entire cost of your witness setup. I, along with many other witnesses, I paid for my own pocket for months (and before that, for years). I suspect pretty much every witness who wasn't on top 21 had to do that. I did this NOT knowing it will go to have a 16x jump.

There wasn't any contract that stated: pay now and we guarantee you 16x return. No, it doesn't work like this.

Also, during this time, people working on projects like Peakd, Ecency, LeoFinance, SplinterLands, NFTShowRoom and many more that I don't have the space to mention now, worked without a contract.

There wasn't anyone telling them: keep hustling, boys, because in one year you'll get 16x of what you make now. No, it doesn't work like this.

As for the content creators, those putting the flesh on the bones of the infra, they wrote for pennies. Or less. And they kept writing, they kept creating engaging, educational, useful content for their followers.

There wasn't anyone telling them: hey, bro, keep that writing habit and you'll make 16x of what you make now. No, it doesn't work like this.

Those curating posts kept curating and distributed the network value among the worthwhile participants, improving the mechanism. More often than not they were receiving just pennies of HIVE, which is less than a cent.

And yet, they kept doing that, without nobody telling them: here's the deal, if you keep curating, if you keep this thing afloat, in one year you'll get 16x of what you make now. No, it doesn't work like this.

Because this type of project, this type of tech, this type of community is not backed by explicit contracts, validated by lawyers and pumped by VCs. Instead, it's just the collective desire to make it. It's the pooling of skills to keep building, the relentless communication, and the hustle. It's the balanced approach in which you understand that in order for you to make it, everybody else has to make it.

There's no contract for that. You are the contract. Everything you do. It's all up to you.

I salute those who kept hustling, those who created this incredible year for HIVE. I also thank already to those who will stick around when bad times will come (make no mistake, there will be bad times, that's just how the world works).

Here's to an even better 2022!

Don't worry, I will keep posting, high or low.
We can achieve a lot as a community, just keep goining.

In trust we go forward together, people working with each other in different ways has made Hive an interesting project to engage on and in with many building.

"No, it doesn't work like this."
Nop, it doesn't. Most did stick around because they wanted to (and still do) build something and enjoyed the place even when Hive was at $0.11

It's the balanced approach in which you understand that in order for you to make it, everybody else has to make it.

This is very true.

Hive is part of my DNA already 😂

I now bleed Hive.

It's certainly been one hell of a ride :) loads of fun too. I was setting my HIVE goals a little while ago and running different scenarios. Of course it's fun to plug in $8 HIVE into the spreadsheet lol. Hey, you never know; maybe one day.

maybe one day

Maybe sooner than we think.

The contract is one's own vision. You bring up valid points on so many different levels. We all operated for long stretches of time with uncertainty, at least from the external. Certainty came from our internal belief about what was taking place. Many did not have that and departed, leaving us with the proverbial "this place sucks" posts.

We all paid during the down times. Most witnesses it was an out of pocket expense. For others, it was a time factor. Either way, that was done because of the vision one held (that aligned with many others).

It is easy to look at the rewards now while omitting what took place during the bear. This is what separates those who profit massively versus those who do not. When one has the vision and it materials, great things happen.

You point should be remembered. There were a number of developers working on projects who had to take coding gigs to pay their bills. It was sad to see and a setback to progress but had to be done.

So it is easy to focus upon the gravy-train some are riding when things are good while overlooking the struggle when things are bad.

Hive welcomed was within its communities and started rewarded from day one for our contributions. And not only that but as the projects from here thrived, that got reflected in its price as well. Now we simply need to expect a greater year in 2022 than we have previously experienced.

I hope with togetherness we can achieve this s

I have decided to be there through thick and thin and I am delighted to see the results so far.

Manually curated by EwkaW from the @qurator Team. Keep up the good work!

I'm grateful to all the witnesses and developers. They believed in Hive and so did those who kept posting when the price was down. Others only came back when it went up, but they lost out on what they could have made.

I still believe Hive can do even better. We have just begun to take off. In a year we will could be somewhere completely different. I am excited to find out what that will be.

Cheers

Did you hear about the Irish guy who was assasinated at the antique store?
It was a knick knack paddywhack!

@dragosroua, I sent you an $LOLZ on behalf of @steevc
Use the !LOL or !LOLZ command to share a joke and an $LOLZ. (1/1)

Hive works for those who put in some work. We kept working and accumulating and it is paying off now. Well done bees. Here is the honey lol.

Honestly speaking, I never looked this platform for a monetory value. Untill now. I was enjoy being part of it and sharing our usual daily stuffs. Never knew that gradually I am building something so precious.

This moments are the cherry on top of hive. But only for those who have worked for it

I see it the simplest way : Rather than pay for a website I prefer to Power Up a HIVE Account. It is true that I have rather limited functionality, but if am only posting it makes sense.

No brainer for anyone having a blog, except the "complexity" of managing 5 keys 🗝

What to say but...Let's keep on Rocking.! :)

Best wishes to everyone in upcoming 2022.

Mazing what is going on with Hive, love it!

I always thought that sticking it out at steem was a good investment because of the friendships and self discovery that came along with it. I did not anticipate for it to be the best monetary investment of my life or to outdue my btc investment by so much. Glad tho.

Seeing this performance in a year is motivating factor for us and we hope that the prices doubles by the end of 2022. Like $5 is very possible :)

Here's to you, @dragosroua & all the other #hivehustlers here and everywhere on #Hive! Let's make 2022 and beyond even better! ;)
