I was rewatching the 2011 movie In Time where people stop aging on their 25th birthday. They are now being controlled by the countdown clock on their arm. The whole concept of the movie set in 2169 was Time is money. If you want to take an uber, you spend the time, buy a drink, buy a house, see a doctor, subscribe your cable TV and so on.
You work to get paid in time.
Time dictates all forms of action, and it is irreversible when spent. Now we often hear the metaphor Time is Money. What if it is not a metaphor and it literally means Time is money

In the real sense of time, it shares the same property with money because they are both limited. It is possible to earn more money but not more time because you can’t create more time from thin air. Every minute gone has a cost.
Looking at time, as a currency changes how decisions and what decisions are made.
Limited time
We have 24 hours, 1440 minutes, 86,400 seconds in a day and they get spent no matter what you do on that day. You look at some people closing deals, launching rockets to space, learning, while others absolutely do nothing. It is the same hours and yet we have accomplished different things. An individual life outcome is based on how their daily hours are spent.
I started a series on investing hive rewards in real life assets, and it is going well. I can also say saving my hive rewards in interest paying assets which can’t be done with time. Time expires daily and unused time can’t be saved. I have bought leo tokens, afit, helios, upme and number of HIVE-ENGINE tokens then saved my unused hive rewards. Well, this isn’t the same with time. Imagine time is money, the endless scrolling on TikTok or Instagram will be saved and utilized for something productive
Free Time
There is nothing like free time because you were doing something. Watching a football match or binge watching a Netflix movie for two hours is structured the same as working on a new project. They are both consumption with different outputs.
When you equate time as money in literal terms, you set priorities right and do away with things that don’t give value. You start using the phrase I don’t have time which literally means the monetary value of the meeting is not worth it.
Tracking value is the main reason for treating time as money not for you to start living like robots. You will rest, have fun, relate with families, and sleep, but the intentions are different and not just waste output. You know that you spent hours sleeping to refocus and prevent burnout.
The Exchange Rate Between Time and Money
Naira is currently trading around 1,450 to $1 and it changes based on many factors. The same applies to the exchange rate between time and money. The rate changes with skill, with new skills and abilities brings forth increased value for each hour.
You see some foreign countries pay hourly wages and it increases based on discipline, education, experience and all. All these factors increase per hour in relation to money.
Money can multiply through interest or investment like what I am doing with the Hive rewards investment. Time multiplies through delegation, automation, or teaching others to act on your behalf.
Final Thoughts
If time is money, the richest are not those who earn the most but who spend and account for every minute spent.
For anyone struggling financially, time becomes their most valuable asset.
