One full week since HiveFest ended, that's my story

in LeoFinance2 years ago (edited)

''Oh wow, it has already been a week, I should be writing that post which I've been procrastinating about soon...''

hivefest1.jpg

And here I am! Probably one of the hardest posts of my entire life on the chain.
Why? Because I'm talking mainly about feelings, not finance... which is my confort zone.

Our trip started with the illussion to attend, in late June when @queengaga (yes, she's my partner) and I took the tickets and started booking hotels, saving dates, etc.

Mention that we didn't only stayed in Amsterdam between the 15 and the 19, we traveled to Delft in order to meet with an old friend of mine who already stablished there and this was one of the rare opportunities where we are able to met.

Day 1 - The arrival

We took the plane from Barcelona el Prat in the morning, landed in Schiphol around 14:00 pm after a few delays and after some stress (damn I hate airports) we were doing the regular cigarrete at the door of the Volkshotel. We left our suitcases on our room and took our pendants with our usernames as we admired the main hall of the hotel.

''What an amazing piece of place they have! In Spain we only have stables!...''

We were hungry asf so we decided to take a pizza while we wait since we were a bit early to the event. Not much later, with a slightly fuller stomach and with a mix of contained expectations, we stepped into the hall where the first Hivers started to congregate.

That's where the first connections started being made.

''F_ck I'm a bit nervous!''

The first person I spoke to was @xrayman and the connection was instant, we started talking about everything Hive and soon other hivers started surrounding us. Among other things, I got very excited to meet in person @arcange, Mr. Badges as I like to call him amicably. Hivebuzz has been a constant engagement input all these years.

That's one of the greatest things of this type of events, imagine that you spent the previous 4 years interacting (almost) daily in a game with other players behind an username. Then a day comes where you put a face and a voice to all this usernames and inputs. It's shocking, damn.

It also happened with Dan (blocktrades), although I didn't find the right moment to approach him and say a few words (I'm somewhat shy, I confess). It's a figure which I respect a lot for all what he's doing regarding core development of the chain. It was truly showing to saw him there, chilling with a beer/soft drink.

HiveFest is the outlet for many of these emotions.

It also happens that you imagine certain people in a certain way, and that's something which also happened to @alexvan with me. He said something like:

''I imagined you smaller and thinner...''

LOL. I couldn't stop myself when I saw him at the hall, and had to greet him warmly. We spent a great days together, what a f*cker.

Later on I meet @pardinus (which btw sent me greetings from @cmmemes, so I'm greeting you back). Another individual with whom I connected quickly. So much, that after a few drinks, we decided to go for more food. (I said before that my stomach was slighty fuller right?)

pardinus, xray, queen and I, all ready to taste a bit of Tika massala. Yummy!

imagen.png

After that, I was frankly tired, alex invited us to some party (party!party!) but I had to refuse peacefully. We had to wake up early the day after!

Day 2 & 3 - Full into conference mode

Both days were full of presentations and to say it was mentally exhausting is not enough.

Here roelandp guiding the show.

imagen.png

As far as I know all the presentations have been recorded and you can watch them there.

My favourites (in order of presentation):

  • Hive.io coredev with howo & blocktrades
  • NFT's for peace with zirochka & arcange
  • Freechain movie with lordbutterfly & little.lamb
  • Hive marketing with behilarious

and from day 2

  • OCD with livinguktaiwan
  • Peakd Open Projects with jarvie
  • SPK.network with starkerz
  • Lighting strikes Hive with brianoflondon

Without forgetting the beetroot soup!

imagen.png

And what a surprise TDC tunes was! Frankly unexpected and unique performance.
I don't think it's worth to comment much on presentations, just watch them if you're interested. One were (much) better than others, but there was available foods and drinks on breaks, overall very well organized.

We had this amazing sights on day 1.

hivefest2.jpg

Night & fun on Hivefest

hivefest3.jpg

The activities after the conference mode were not behind at all, after the presentations at the Eye Museum on day 1, we enjoyed an amazing boat trip around the canals of the city, which carried us all to our next destination where we played with balls of steel, yes, you know what I'm talking about... petanque.

Frankly surprised me how active people is during daylight hours, the opposite of Spain, where people tend to avoid the sun in summers since is suffocating. It's like people hurry up to get the most of every sunlight.

Random pic of a mill.

imagen.png

imagen.png

21:00 pm in Amsterdam is like 23:00 pm in Spain in that sense. Surprisingly crowded for what I call 'early'.

I got a misterious token from @elmerlin, I still have to unveil it's content... He said it was something exclusive only to Hivefest attendees. The Casino chip feels great and it's a great souvenir so many thx for that!

imagen.png

On Day 2 I chose Beerfest, where @detlev carried a group of people to a couple of cozy pubs.

This night flew away talking with alex and @revisesociology, which I had the pleasure to meet the day before. It is always interesting to exchange first-hand opinions on everything Hive, especially Splinterlands, Leofinance and the current state of the base layer of the chain.

Day 4 - Exploring day and Closing Dinner

The 'last' day of the even was a free day where each decided to explore a bit more the city on it's own terms, a bit of shopping here, let's drink there, let me buy that souvenir, you get that.

The closing dinner was also other of these emotional events. Specially when arcange used the word 'Family' as the most accurate word to describe the event (again with amazing sights).

imagen.png

Hey, we don't have a clear leader (in fact we broke away from that), the VC's of Solana or the social reach of other (funded) groups, but we have a lot of personality as a community, and a lot of human talent. We don't owe nothing to anyone and we can build this chain as we feel pleased. And there's not only one direction.

Hive is truly amazing.

imagen.png

imagen.png

a little anecdote of something that happened to me last night on the terrace;

It was like 1:00 am or so, I already had like 4-5 wine glasses (at least, dunno), everyone was chilling.
I went outside (to the terrace) to breathe some fresh air, I walked a bit, I took a sip from my glass... and it went the other way.

imagen.png

And you know, I started coughing desperately, almost crying damn... you know how annoying can be when it happens.

Then @starkerz (who saw all of my shit) asked me ''you're ok man?'' (thinking I was drunk as hell, tho), and holy f I thought to myself (YES I GOT ALL MY LARYNX STAKED!!).

Then we sit together and we exchanged some thoughts about SPK and other stuff (later came howo with all of his black magic). Good times! If you're reading this I salute you sir!

After that moment and a few farewells, some hugs around and went to bed. This is how the last night at Hivefest ended.

Closing thoughts and my personal list of 'missing people'.

Even in the next morning we still managed to keep meeting people, We said goodbye to fellow new frens and had an interesting talk with @s0u1 and @michelle.gent about a bit of everything, queengaga loved that she (mich) was a writer and that she wrote Horror stories in the past.

Pretty nice to be able to keep interacting until literally the last minute... although everything has to come to an end. This how I this is how I experienced it from my perspective. I missed a few names though:

gifbob.gif

@trumpman. King of gayness was a very big one missing. Would have been great to meet him.

Also @resiliencia and @toofasteddie, my beloved ones from my land.

@khaleelkazi being the mastermind behind Leofinance, I really missed meeting him in person, I guess being at the other side of the ocean doesn't really help, same with @theycallmedan from SPK.network or @edicted, of whom I must say I am 'eddicted' to their blog (u didn't read that lmao, sorry for the bad joke).

I also missed a bit more of 'spanish community' as a whole, I know a lot of latin people use Hive and speak spanish, but unfortunately not so many (as it appears to be) around Spain or other european countries. I consider @eddiespino as one of the leaders from the spanish comm. Some day, hopefully.

Also @belemo, my beloved nigerian prince, hope he makes it and manages to be able to restart his life in the UK soon. And @acesontop, fighting day after day onchain. I almost forgot about @dalz and his stats, damn!

Probably I'm missing more people, but whatever, thanks to make the overall experience amazing.

Thank you for this Hivefest!

Have to attend it, at least once. So many people to know in person…

We definitely need to meet some day.

And we still have to meet here! Less than 100km between us and we never did!

It was so great meeting you and @queengaga! Hope you had a blast in the rest of your vacations. I know I'll be reading your blog a lot more carefully from now on! Hope to see you both again, either in Portugal or Spain! ;) Cheers! !BEER

next meeting will be much sooner, that's for sure my fren

Hit me up if you're around!

You always add some extra human touch in your posts, mentioning some of the people missing is sure great! Thank you!

I think its great to have these fests, meating people in person after chating with them for so long on chain is a sureal feeling. I have met a few one on one and its quite interesting :) Never ending talks about hive and crypto in general :)

I thinl Mexico or some other latin country (El Salvador?), might be a great location for the next HiveFest. Give more oportunity for South America :) Also its closer to the US, so they can jump in :)

Lol dalz, you touched my potato with that comment.

Regarding the location, I guess it's because Roeland is from the Netherlands so it's always been easier to organize an event around Europe in that sense, But yes! Would be great to have one in South/Central America

I have the site all ready in Colombia!

That will do it!

I don't want to sound cheesy, but this adventure would not have been the same without you. In it, I keep dozens of thoughts, hundreds of memories, and thousands of feelings.
I love "Queen"!😆

'cheesy', lol. Like ur feet

Thanks for sharing your story man.

Definitely still feeling the FOMO...

Thank you sire

There's always the next year though :)

Hope you enjoyed the #coldbeetrootsoup 😁

First taste strange (specially if you're not used to that vegetable), later on delicious :P

Next bull market I'll be there.

Well, this is me at the moment:

''Oh wow, it has already been a week, I should be writing that post which I've been procrastinating about soon...''

Still thinking on the structure of the post, as it is going to be a long one, or at least I plan to.

Yes, somehow I imagined you different, nonetheless, now that I know, it fits.

Hope to meet you soon enough again!

Pleasure is mine sir.

Wow! You really captured the spirit at the conference. Though I wasn't there, I could feel the camaraderie!

I've been waiting for this post and also to see you, but I see you have nice pants and shoes 😂

I'm glad you've been able to participate and connect with others.

hehehe there's plenty of photos, but I believe a 'slight' privacy is never going to be missed.

Hope everything is going well for you erikah, looking to meet you some day :)

No worries, I'm a good detective and can also keep a secret.

untitled.gif

And yes, thanks, I'm fine and we're going to meet one day to say thank you for making me rich 😂

A good detective? You mean you already know?

Big if true!

untitled.gif

Yes, I know 😜 and can prove it if you're curious 😂

really happy you had a great time with pardinus and company. You both seem like awesome people and the fact you get along in real life just proves my impeccable taste in humans :P Also glad I could say hi in my own pleb way, maybe in a few years crypto will pay for my attendance at Hivefest, especially if old trumpman comes :)

Taste in memes > taste in humans.

Would be great to meet, once Hives holds the 10$ level and everyone raises it's standards

hive at $10 ? you need to tell me where do you buy your hopium from, because it's stronger than what I can find :)))

Wow, you just gave me an idea for a post.

I'll try to justify a 10$ HIVE price...
And why not, a 100$ one.

You'll see, not really that difficult

untitled.gif

at least I'm not totally useless :)

Thanks for sharing your experience! It looks like it was a great event. I hope to be able to attend Hive fest some day

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It really was an awesome event and I got surprised in a very positive way :)

Not a single selfie ?

No need to share selfies onchain sir :)

Oh man, I really wish I could attend. The events started on my birthday, so I'd have been drunk asf that day

Then you had your personal celebration tho, nvm. You have much important priorities atm. Best of luck with that :)

I don't know how far the Netherlands is to the US or UK, but I guess it was extremely distant, guessing this is the reason why people like theycallmedan didn't attend. Maybe the next Hivefest could be made more central. At least coulda taken a smiling selfie hahaha.

8-10h in plane easily from Spain to US approx. You need to spend 2 days on a plane to attend a 3-4 day event, which isn't worth it.

UK to Netherlands is nothing, 1h or so.

I am hoping next one I will be there

Sounds like you had a blast and so nice to put faces on Hive IDs!

Thank you for this great post!

Thanks mr lemon!

Finna steal this idea of leaving my profile at the end of every damn post I make now, yep🙂

I've been doing it since ages tho :)

Wao! Such a wonderful experience

So many memories, so many cool moments. It was something else and a pity we didn't have a chance to meet as meeting everyone just is impossible in the amount of time.

Yes some big names were missing..hopefully for next time some of them will be there and hopefully in a warmer country again hahaha

Well it's something unavoidable though. I prefer to focus on the quality of the time I have spent with the people I have met there, which indeed has been great.

And yes, a Hivefest in a place like New Orleans, Florida, Seville or Sicily... multitude of warm decent places :)

I was thinking to come this year, but I could not miss my wedding and honeymoon. there is always the next year, I say.

Wedding is a big step! Congratz on that sir :)

Sounds like you had a decent break and enjoyed yourself. Maybe next time all depending on where and what I am doing then as one never knows.

Oh, the break was more than necessary. Looking forward to meet you on one of the next ones bud :)

Oh damn, I missed the boat tour! 😿

ooh, i am very jealous! seems like such a cool, cool, and ultra cool event! 💪😎😉😜😊🤙 maybe i'll get there in future times..

U got to shmooze with lots of awesome hivers. so cool!

and nice new profile avatar! Nice!

Haha I couldn’t have even guessed what you’d have looked like..

And you know already?

It has been a pleasure to meet you in Amsterdam @empoderat.

I should be writing that post which I've been procrastinating about soon...'

I feel you 😅

Feeling is mutual. Still impressed by your language count!

Oh man, I didn't practice some of them for so long. I tried to speak a bit of Chinese with @emerlin but failed miserably :(
I should stop bragging and go back to school benches.

BTW, may I ask you to review and support the Dev Marketing Proposal (https://peakd.com/me/proposals/232) we presented on Conference Day 1 at HiveFest?
If you missed the presentation, you can watch it on YouTube.
Thank you!

Oh, thanks for the remind. Already voted, hopefully it will get enough support by the start date.

thanks again!

Hey @empoderat, here is a little bit of BEER from @pardinus for you. Enjoy it!

Did you know that you can use BEER at dCity game to **buy dCity NFT cards** to rule the world.

Sounds like an amazing trip. I want to go but being in the US makes it hard. Maybe when hive is $10 I can afford it!

I guess many Hivers from the other side of the ocean had the same problem, but your solution with HIVE at 10$ seems like a decent one, I would sign hehe

That's one of the greatest things about this type of event, imagine that you spent the previous 4 years interacting (almost) daily in a game with other players behind a username. Then a day comes when you put a face and a voice to all these usernames and inputs. It's shocking, damn.

Amazing! Reading your story at least gave us - Hivers who don't have the capability to travel and attend such a great meeting - a glimpse of the beauty of such a meeting of great people on Hive. It feels somehow that I've been there and I am proud to be part of this amazing blockchain and crypto family!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

And that's the greatest thing of this event. if you're going only for business/ to make cash licking ass from whales you're not going to make it (yes, there was also from these).

Thanks 4 the comment! :)

Yes, though that's not cool, people like that are everywhere.

Thanks for the link to the HiveFest videos. Though they are long, it looks very interesting to watch them. I will just digest them slowly.

The ones that I recommended are the better for 'HIVE overall' IMHO, there's quite a bit of project promotion on some conferences

I'm not sure if we spoke in Amsterdam, but I'm glad you had such a good time. It's an amazing group of people and I consider many of them to be friends. I hope there will be many more meetups to come.

I didn't get a Liketu poker chip. You have something special there.

!PIZZA

We shared a few words, but we didn't managed to have a long conversation (plus there was more people around, etc). But meh, not a problem, was also nice to meet you in person.

Regarding the people, yes, I agree with you. It was truly amazing to be surrounded with people you never met/saw before... only to feel that you're as comfortable as with people you know since always.

We have something rarely seen there :)

Wow, I'm not used to that kind of engagement.

Thank you to everyone who's taking their time to drop a sightfull comment or an upvote, means a lot.

Blessed. Many thanks :)

untitled.gif

So Cool to see CBRS card there too :) Looking forward to the new meetups and content on the chain!

Hivefest7 wish i had attended but it is cool always another time tell me how did you really really feel when you saw those who you have been engaging with on hive you-all finally met were you nervous.
