Most of us have regular jobs that enable us make ends meet. Some of us find fulfillment in those jobs, and some of us just do it for the money. Of course whatever the reason working is generally seen as a net positive contribution to the economy. I personally embrace the idea of work as opposed to handouts and welfare even those there are some extraordinary circumstances.
That said, I wonder how many of us do take the time to reflect on our jobs and roles holistically. If you are unhappy about your current role could it be because the job/company itself is not creating actual identifiable value? Or maybe the work we perform as individuals does not seem quite significant.
My time in the finance sector has further shown me the difference between doing something of high impact/value and contributing to the company's numbers. There is often a very thin line between them and they can sometimes complement each other. However, those of us under paid employment will likely experience this more than entrepreneurs simply because the vision isn't our own.
I have nothing against paid employment, and doubt I have what it takes to run a successful business. I do believe my current role does have some significance as I see the faces of satisfied customers and how our operations aids their businesses. Still, I am unfulfilled at my current role, but not ungrateful. Perhaps when I reflect on this a couple of years down the line it will be a more pleasant experience.
Time for change and a more fulfilling role?
My point of view for a general bottom line - it's the paycheck. Yes, it's has to have good relationships and atmosphere and doing something at least beneficial for everybody involved, if not fulfilling and synergetic.
