China announced the official launch of its blockchain-based service network (BSN) for commercial use, following the six-month pilot test conducted in October last year. It was announced by Chinese government officials and heads of organizations that took part in the project after a meeting in Beijing on Thursday.
The new system consists of a global infrastructure to help projects that employ blockchain technology to create and run new applications at a lower cost, and accelerate the development of smart cities and the digital economy.
According to the report, more than 2,000 developers, corporate and individual, tested BSN during the six months of their beta test. In this period, applications have been created to help the public welfare charity, monitoring consumer goods and developing electronic invoices.
The network currently has 128 public nodes. According to the president of the Alliance for the Development of Blockchain Services Network, Shan Zhiguang, 76 are in China, 44 are under construction and the remaining 8 are in cities abroad, extending the system to six continents. By the end of the year, Zhinguag estimates that the network will exceed 200 nodes.
Unlike the pilot test, with its official launch the BSN network will no longer have restrictions on the development and deployment of applications and accounting. Furthermore, developers will have the freedom to update their applications at any time.
