Two Ways To Build Influence On Hive
After spending a good 17 months on the platform using various apps and investing in different tokens, I have finally come to a conclusion that there are two major ways to build influence on Hive:
- Money: If you have lots of it, you can buy the influence in the form of Hive Power. That's the quickest and the easiest way to get everyone's attention. FACTS! Even small amounts make a huge difference when bought at the right time (dips).
- Skill: Earning the influence is far better than buying. If you have a skill or a set of skills that could add value back to the Hive Network, you are going to make it. FACTS!! It takes time and effort to acquire a skill and then acquire influence using that skill.
In this blog, I am listing down the skills that I think are quite precious to achieving success here. If you are a newbie, you can pick one or two or all of them or choose anyone you like that is not on this list. It's up to you! Just remember:
Skills To Become A Beast On Hive
Coding
If you are a developer who knows their way of writing and executing code then you have a great chance of making an impact on Hive. Most coders have great problem-solving and logic skills. They can use your knowledge to build tools and apps which others might use. Automation of petty tasks is easier for them. For ex: @themarkymark buys and sells HE tokens automatically while plebs like me do it manually by clicking so many buttons. To run a witness node on Hive, you need coding skills otherwise you might have to hire someone else to do it for you. Just remember, devs are high in demand, especially in web3 space. Software is eating the world quickly and the future is going to be fully owned by the developers. So, if you have some interest in this area, this is the best time to get started.
Social Media & Networking
Social media is one of the most effective tools to meet new people, learn from them or market them your products and services. Hive is a social blockchain with social media elements like Profiles, Posts, Comments, Communities etc. If you are good at web2 social media, you are going to do great on Hive. Similar principles of brand building and influence apply here. The more you network, the more you grow. If you are good at it, then you can even handle a web3 project's social media on and off Hive or simply grow your own brand as a content creator. A fast-moving space such as web3 has enough opportunities for people with this skill because marketing is everywhere and social media is used widely across all industries.
Graphic Design & Digital Art
Graphic design and Digital Art are completely separate fields. One person can go for both. Artwork is not necessarily used in every business but graphics are key to communicating visually. Why? Because a graphic is worth a thousand words. It is more impactful and stays within the viewer's mind. In a digital world that is growing at a fast pace, the need for graphic designers and digital artists will also grow exponentially. To have these skills on a platform like Hive can provide you an edge over thousands of other creators. Moreover, you can even use them to get paid for Hive-based projects. Every new project on the blockchain can be your potential customer.
Video Creation & Editing
Just like graphics, videos are impactful and probably even better at invoking a certain emotion inside the viewer's mind. It's one of the best ways to do storytelling or educate your audiences. Do you know why musicians make music videos and famous podcasters shoot their content in video format? Because they are powerful, inspiring, and here to stay. If you have the confidence to sit in front of the camera and talk, then that is a great skill to have in 2022, not just on Hive. If you are shy one like me and don't want to show your face, then you can use editing skills to make one. Just be creative 👆
All these skills can be achieved easily and you don't even need to leave your house to learn them. Everything is available online for free. Its interesting that the value of a vote on Hive has dropped. At 100%, my vote is edible to be worth 0.03 now it's 0.019. Id have thought it would stay stable of we're earning in Hive, the portion should still be the same regardless of the dollar value
Yes, vote value has dropped but my curation rewards are a little better than before. Getting more Hive because it's dollar value is low.

Not ready to post? Not a coder.. etc.
Be a consumer of content, you will learn new information, become more interesting, and if you comment and engage you will start to build a powerful network of friends, this will come in handy if you start to develop any of the other skills mentioned, and you'll be surprised how quickly votes on comments can add up.
