Without a doubt, Hive has the best ecosystem of different decentralized social media DApps in all of Web3. @LeoFinance and @Peakd are my favorite picks. Recently I have been trying my hands on @Liketu as well. Outside Hive, things don't look as pretty. Most such apps have come and gone because their user base couldn't sustain the volatility of this space. We are early and the harsh reality is that 99% of the projects will die.
Still, there are a few platforms that have gained popularity and momentum better than the others. They need a special mention, so I have created a list of my favorite 5 Web3 social media apps outside Hive. Hopefully, you guys can find something interesting that will make you try them or not. It's up to you. xD But you can find inspiration or ideas that we can implement on Hive DApps. That's the value of spending some time outside Hive as well.

To be honest, I feel that what some of these web3 app lacked and still lacks is the proper community to maintain and go after traction. I've never heard about paragraph before, way to go. Thanks for the educating post. Really, nothing beats hive out there.

I have never heard of these applications before. The most interesting seems to me Lenster, the one built on Lens Protocol
Sadly claiming a handle on Lens Protocol is a pain in the ass for new users. They are still not open to everyday. But the UI looks clean and interesting.

So many of these come and go... somewhat unstable for numerous reasons. I think much of the "hard work" is not taken seriously enough. Just my opinion.

To be honest, the only one of these 5 that I had even heard of, was Mirror.xyz. I tried it out, and it seems to be an interesting concept, but has zero staying power imo.
Hive could also very easily create a formal publishing platform like a Substack, as @Khal has mentioned, where you could paywall content behind $HIVE, $HBD, $LEO or any Hive-Engine Layer-2 token, making any and all other platforms outside of Hive, relatively useless.
