OnlyFans has added NFT profile pics, but still doesn't actually solve the problem faced by adult content creators
Another day, another Web2 company jumping aboard the crypto bandwagon and tricking the uninformed into believing that they’re now Web3.
This time we have our old friend OnlyFans, who today announced that they would support NFT profile pictures.
Oh cool, right?
Well, the mainstream media view seems to think so.
But once again it seems that nobody even wants to understand the problems that adult content creators face, let alone how Web3 can solve them.
Let me tell you, adding the ability to put a random Ethereum-based NFT as your profile pic on their platform isn't what they're looking for.
The problem faced by adult content creators
So woo, NFTs.
Gotta get those buzzwords in.
But as I said above, this actually does nothing to solve the actual problem that adult content creators face.
The problem?
That your entire business is based on a profile which a single 3rd party controls.
Ask yourself, why would you risk your business on a platform that can ban you on a whim at any time they please?
Why would you allow yourself even the chance of losing all of your followers and therefore your entire ability to conduct business as a result?
As a business owner, having this risk hanging over you at all times is ludicrous.
I mean, I’m sure that OnlyFans won’t screw you over.
You’re special.
You and your business are different, you’re not doing anything to deserve getting banned.
Maybe.
Probably…
Are you starting to think about what would actually happen to your business if this happened?
Not good, is it?
OnlyFans has a history of censoring adult content creators
I mean the concept of being deplatformed as an adult content creator isn’t even that wild.
Heck, OnlyFans has already said they were banning porn once.
What’s to say they won’t do it again?
We continue to see what’s morally acceptable in the mainstream being decided by corporations and the vested interests of their shareholders.
Maybe your naughty little kink won’t be looked upon so fondly next month?
Who knows.
The point being, why the fuck would you risk it?
The key is understanding the difference between a platform that says it won’t ban you and a platform where it is technically impossible to ban, or even censor your content.
Hive offers a solution to adult content creators
So with all of this in mind as an adult content creator, is there a solution?
Of course there is!
The best alternative to OnlyFans is an account you own and control, on a fully decentralised network.
When looking for suitable blockchains that can handle the type of Web3 social content and microtransactions required to support an adult content creation business, you’ll soon discover that your shortlist is relatively small.
And what sits at the top of this relatively small shortlist?
The solution is a Web3 Hive account that you own via a set of private keys.
Not only does a Hive crypto account allow you to continue conducting business your way, forever via its immutable, censorship-resistant properties.
But allows you to monetise your content in a range of ways thanks to the layers of rewards available using various front-ends built on the Hive blockchain.
The game is changing and you have a golden opportunity to change along with it.
Start shifting your business to a Web3 Hive account today

Your community of followers will ALWAYS be tied to your account.
Best of probabilities to you.

I have to agree that onlyfans is not really doing a good job of looking out for their userbase. Honestly, I don't know if people would even go there if it wasn't for the fan service. Any idea how DPorn is doing? It's probably the closest alternative we have for it.

WHat's Dporn? :O

A community on Hive about porn. I recall people talking about it before but I don't actively track it.

Forget about Hive communities.
All they are good for is generic promotions.
But in the case of adult content creators who are already on OnlyFans, they don't need a generic porn community to promote into.
They already have an audience that follows them on Web2 platforms like their OnlyFans or Twitter account.
They are their own community and just need the censorship-resistance and business stability that a Web3 Hive account offers.

I have never used onlyfans yet, but I do know that they are a place for adult content creators to share their content. But I mean there is a little difference between adult content and porn, isn't it?
There was a project back in steem, not sure if they are still ongoing now either on hive or steem, called Dporn where they can share their adult content with no censorship.
But they do ask you to make an introduction post about who you really are and not use other adult content.
Sure, adult content creators is another way of saying porn.
But as with everything, there are different levels to the modern porn industry and it is very much an accepted, mainstream business model now.
As for Dporn and Hive communities, they aren't needed in this case.
All Hive communities are good for, is to promote to an audience within your niche.
But in this case, the adult content creators already have an audience that follows them on OnlyFans and Web2 social media.
All they need is an immutable, censorship-resistant Hive account that they can onboard that following into so they remove all risk of having it taken away.
A Web3 Hive account offers business stability that no centralised Web2 platform can offer.

if only they understand and wants to move into hive, that would be very nice.
At least it will be harder for the platform to banned the creator, or harder for government to mute them.
But it might be a bit of a problem for the people in my place to access hive if the government decided to restrict or block the website.
Pornstars can set up a digital shop where they can sell videos and content using HivePay.

That's one way.
But yeah, while we wait for an adult content creator with vision to build a subscription service dApp on Hive, there are a ton of alternative ways to monetise content.
Just gotta think outside the box!

Tik Tok for Adult Content on Hive. 🚀🚀

Yeah, this was a cool addition but really does nothing for the users or the creators.

Everyone is writing about it and giving OnlyFans backlinks though.
Smart digital marketing play ;)
