For the longest of time, fuel (otherwise known as gas) and other refined petroleum products have been imported by my country Nigeria, even if we have a good deposit of Crude oil. This is as a result of lack of functional refineries in the country.

Recently, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Mr Mele Kyari announced that our Port Harcourt refinery which has been in existence for long but not fully functional will commence operations in 2 weeks time.

He also said that the Warri and Kaduna refinery facilities will become functional by latest December.

Mr Kyari assured Nigerians that NNPC ( Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited)is committed to delivering on its promises concerning the rehabilitation and commencment of the refineries, he emphasized that the completion of mechanical work as a significant milestone. He also confirmed that regulatory compliance tests are underway before restarting operations, with the Port Harcourt refinery expected to undergo these tests in the coming weeks. Additionally, Mr Kyari stated that over 450,000 barrels of crude oil have been stocked into the Port Harcourt refinery in preparation for its reopening.

This news will be a great one if it actually comes to pass, because it will go a long way in reducing the cost of gas here in Nigeria, which will as well affect all other sections of the economy positively, as gas is a very essential commodity for us as of now.

This is coming after the removal of fuel subsidy in the early part of last year which had a huge impact on the economy of Nigeria, transportation cost skyrocketed, foodstuffs became more expensiveexpensive. A litre of fuel that used to cost less than #200 went up to almost ₦500 per litre, and has since then climbed up to almost ₦700 per litre, making it difficult for the comman man to be able to buy fuel.

In a country where we have an epileptic electric power supply, many people depended on the use of fuel powered generators for generating of electricity in order to carry out some everyday basic activities that require the use of electric power, but with all these hike, people are unable to cope anymore.

So yeah this will be a great news for the people of Nigeria if this commencement of Port Harcourt refinery is effected.

Internet Disruption

Few days ago, there was a disruption in the stability of network across West Africa, this caused a whole lot of disruptions as businesses and other block chain activities that were dependent on the internet were brought to a standstill. I remember at work, we could not achieve anything due to this.

According to experts, this disruption was brought about by major cuts to undersea submarine cables, which led to the subsequent obstruction of internet traffic in major parts of the continent.

Although, Mainone, a West African digital infrastructure service provider has been able to come to our rescue and stabilize the network across the region. They were able to do this by rerouting the traffic and repairing the cables that were cut undersea.

It was a huge relief finding out that the internet thingy has been sorted out, as we could continue with our work amd other transactions seamlessly

I am glad to hear this!

I worked in the Nigerian Oil industry and it was ludicrous for a crude oil producer to have to import petroleum refined products!

Oh wow, you worked in Nigeria, that's great.

I hope it works out, because it would go a long way in helping our economy.

That Internet disruption was a terrible experience. Glad it is over now. I hope the refinery starts working as they promised. Anything is possible in Nigeria my beloved country 😊

I'm glad that the Internet network is back and strong. I hope that they will be able to fund a lasting solution to the fuel thing. We have the resources all we need is the willpower to implement a policy that will bring a lasting solution to the problem.

If the government can do all they say then our prayer points in Nigeria will reduce drastically!
