Many projects are trying to make Bitcoin better by adding higher scalability or stuff like smart contracts. While on paper it looks better they all trade in decentralization which is why BTC was created in the first place.
In my opinion the simplicity of Bitcoin is what makes it so great! :)

Ya, Luke Dashjr actually wanted to make the blocks smaller to keep the chain from growing too large, too fast, taking away the ease of people to run nodes. That's one nice things about BTC, I can still fire up my node on my laptop.
