Another week with yet another Battle Mage Secret. This time around we are trying to find a way to win in the Earthquake setting. In this post we will go over the characteristics of the Earthquake Ruleset, what the best counter measure could be and last but not least we will look at the example battle that we were able to decide in our favor! With this being said, let’s get started.
Earthquake Ruleset
First things first, let’s talk about the earthquake Ruleset itself. In general you can imagine it as a literal earthquake. Each Round the monsters on each side will get a 2 point damage. The only exceptions are monsters with the Shield Ability which can reduce their damage to one per turn as well as Flying monsters that are not affected by the earthquake. This makes sense since they are not on the ground and should not be affected by something that is happening on Earth.
In recent times I was getting a lot of Earthquake match ups. I think that it is a pretty cool mechanic especially if you think about the possibilities to utilize the environment in your favor. There are certainly a lot of different strategies to get out victorious from such a ruleset and in the following I will present you the one that I am using the most!
Best Counter Against Earthquake
As you could already tell by my previous statements, there is a pretty good counter against the Earthquake Ruleset. If you do not want to get affected by it, just send out monster with the Flying Ability. There are certain Splinters that have more Flying monsters than others and one of them is certainly dragons. Well, you would expect a Dragon to be able to fly don’t you?
This is why the following cards are perfect for this specific circumstance. First up we have the Chaos Dragon. With 3 Magic damage, 3 speed, 4 Armor and 10 health, this card is definitely one of my favorite cards to play! The additional ability of Scatter Shot makes this card the perfect Earthquake card, since it is able to hit cards of the opponent that are placed anywhere and therefore hit potential Flying cards as well.
Furthermore we have Zyvax Vuul which is a Ranged attacker and that is dealing 6 damage every other turn. In my opinion it is a very underrated card especially when it gets the Close Range ability on level 2. With 8 health and 3 speed, this card is also not the worst in terms of stats and makes a great addition to this team. Last but not least, we need to talk about the Void Dragon. With 5 Speed and 7 healht for just 5 mana is a unbeatable deal! With the additional Void ability, this card will absorb potential Magic attackers like crazy. It only comes with one magic damage, but this should not bother us too much since we have more attacking power to come!
Additional Resources
Our additional resources I would like to spend on some more damage inflicted to our opponent. Now while they will not have the flying ability I am assuring you that these cards are definitely worth it since they can do a good amount of damage. First up we have Djinn Oshannus that is just a great card in general. With 5 speed, 10 health and 2 magic damage, this card is one of my favorites anyways. The additional Void Ability makes him a good counter against magic cards as well.
The other card is Djinn Chwala. With 3 melee damage and the additional Thorns damage, this card can do up to 5 damage a turn which is pretty good if we are battling in a Earthquake environment. On top of that she has 2 speed, 5 armor and 9 health which results in a pretty long life time where we are able to deal some damage!
Example Battle
With our strategy lined up, we can finally go into our fight. We are up against a very strong Earth Team that is clearly lacking the Flying monsters that are needed during an Earthquake battle. Nevertheless, we faced a very strong team and got away very briefly with a win. In the end, the Flying Ability paid off since we were able to receive less damage by the Earthquake.
