After a long break due to my private situation, I am finally back. And what a time to be back into Splinterlands with the newest expansion. The rebellion set looks pretty cool and we are going to discover the whole set over the next few weeks. The plan is to reveal new cool strategies and discuss the usage of all the new cool cards! Keep in mind that I am as new to these cards as you. This means that some of my opinions might be very subjective. Nevertheless, I am happy to go through this new set with you together and we will start with the most important cards in each set: the summoners!
(If you want to join the great fun of Splinterlands, make sure to try it out: https://splinterlands.com?ref=ga38jem )
First things first, the card design looks very different to the previous ones. I needed a few moments to understand which card belongs to which element and what the rarity is. But after a few moments you get used to it. I kind of like that the characters are getting a little bit more room to display themselves. On the other hand, I really liked the border of the old card design. All in all the new style is a fresh wind into Splinterlands and I hope it will continue with the actual cards.
Nomos & Abraxas
Let’s start with the Fire Splinter. The pure summoner is Nomos. For a cost of 5 mana you are able to select between two different boosts. Either you are nerfing two enemies by reducing their magic attack or you are giving two of your forces the Dispel Ability. The first Ability is very strong in higher Tiers but I think it is not very effective in the bronze and silver leagues. The sole reason for that is that most Magic attackers do only have 1 magic attack which would not nerf them what so ever. Overall, I would rate this summoner a 2 out of 5 because the cost do not really justify the usage on the first glance.
The brewmaster Abraxas is a very interesting one. He allows you to combine Earth with Fire units if both of these Splinters are available. While this summoner is not giving any boosts, his cost is also only 3 which gives him definitely the edge in low mana battles. I think that Earth and Fire definitely have some synergy between them, especially if you combine the force of Fire with the Magic of Earth. All in all, I can not wait to try out this card and would give him a solid 3 out of 5.
Rosa & Zeddica
Moving on to the Water Splinter where we are seeing a very interesting combination. First we have Prophet Rosa who is allowing us to choose between adding two more Range Attacking or one unit with the shield ability. Now I love the Shield ability but giving it to just one unit seems to me like a waste of 5 mana. Furthermore, I think that the Ranged attacking style is still the weakest one which is I am not a big fan of this summoner at the moment. I would need to explore the different possibilities with this summoner but at this moment I would rate it with 1 out of 5.
With Zeddica we have a summoner that allows us to combine Water and Death. Both Splinters have some powerful Magic cards and there is also some combinations with some cool armor plays. I think it is a very weird combination but if played right, this combination can cover most of the weaknesses of the other one. For me a 3.5 out of 5 with potential to go more up if I figure out in which situations to play this summoner.
Fabino & Chuul
Let’s talk about my favorite Splinter in the past few years: Earth. This one probably got one of the coolest looking Summoners combined with some pretty cool abilities. Underboss Fabino already sounds badass and he definitely has some badass abilities. Either we give two units two more Melee Attack or we can give another unit the Poison ability. The Melee boost is pretty cool if you have Grund. This would boost his damage to 10 per turn. Furthermore, there are plenty of Sneak attackers that could benefit from this boost. The Poison ability is pretty awesome with some Scatter shot cards which there are some in the Earth Splinter as well. I would give this card a 4 out of 5 based on what I saw in the first stages.
With Chuul Jujunchi, we are getting a summoner whose name nobody will pronounce correctly. He is allowing us to combine Earth with the Life Splinter which is for me the combination of the strongest with the weakest one. Now this gives us the opportunity to combine some strong monsters together and use the magic abilities of both these Splinters to our advantage. I think that this summoner might be my number one target given the decks that I am playing. Saying that I don’t think that this card would get higher than a 3 out of 5 for me.
Avina & Prunda
Moving on to the Life Splinter with probably the strongest summoner in this expansion: Avina of the wolf. Her Abilities are pretty awesome. While the Speed ability can give us the edge in a lot of situations, the Self-Heal ability is just overpowered if given to the correct unit. On top of that the Life Splinter has a few support units that have the Tank heal ability allowing us to create a situation in which the tank will almost never fall. Now if this is not enough arguments to give this card a 5 out of 5 I don’t know what else could.
On the other hand we have Prunda Undervesch which combines the Life and the Water Elements. Since Life is probably not the strongest Element out there, the Water Splinter has to carry this combination. I think there are combinations out there that might make this collaboration very strong. While saying that, I would not give this card a higher rating than 2.5 out of 5 since these combinations might be very limited.
Reklah & Doflar
Last but not least, the Death Splinter. In my personal opinion, this Splinter has some very powerful combinations by itself and so it does not surprise me that Reklah is not the strongest summoner in general. Now granted deducting 2 health from two units is pretty cool but compared to the overall deduction of one life point for every enemy unit it is not that much better. Furthermore, the choice of the Reflect Block Ability is pretty cool when using it on your tank and Shield it against Thorns Recoils. Other than that this Ability can be used in the Explosive Ruleset and putting your opponent for questions. All in all, I think this is a solid summoner which can benefit you in correct situation which is why he gets a solid 3 out of 5.
For Doflar I am very excited. I think that Fire and death are a very sexy match with very similar attacking styles. I am just thinking of the amount of Sneak attackers in this setting. On top of that, both have very solid tanks that can be used interchangeably. But there is also the opportunity of using the Magic of death with the health of Fire in order to create powerful combinations. I think that this summoner might be my second choice going forward. With that being said, I would give him a 3.5 out of 5.
