For this week’s “Shar Your Battle” we will take a look at Carrion Shade. This Death monster is a very interesting choice and there are certain ways to integrate this monster into your line-up. In this article we will talk about what makes this monster so special, how to best use it in battle as well as look at some example battles at the end!

Carrion Shade

Starting of with Carrion Shade itself. It is a common Death Card with the mana cost of one. The fact that it is common and only costs one mana is an indicator that this card is not designed to be a game deciding card or special at all. Nevertheless, this card come with two health and one Melee Damage at level one and gets the flying ability at level three. In its final form this card is able to deal 2 melee damage, has three health as well as 4 speed and still has only the flying ability. Because of this ability it is harder to hit this monster but to be honest with you this is almost everything that his card has to offer. Or is it? Well, in almost every case this card can be utilized as a bumper for Sneak or Opportunity protection. What do I mean by that? Especially in lower mana match ups it is always important to be efficient with your mana. For the cost of one mana you can protect your last monster from potential Sneak attacks for at least one turn which is sometimes all that is needed to keep your own sneak monster in the game.

Team & Strategy

As I mentioned before, this card belongs to the Death Element. That is why the best choice for a Summoner is Thaddius Brood. With its decreasing health and mana damage we can weaken our opponent fairly quickly and make sure that we don’t need to do as much damage from the beginning. Furthermore, we need to select cards that will carry us to victory. In my opinion, one of the greatest cards in the game right now is the Cursed Windeku. With its Thorns ability, 3 speed and 9 health it makes one of the best tanks in the game. Combined with the Silent Sha-Vi which has the Sneak ability and a great two melee damage at level one, these two cards make a great Death starter set. Depending on what strategy you want to pursue you can select more Sneak monsters to fill up your line up or add some Magic attackers.

Example Battles

With this strategy we can see that in the first battle the Carrion Sahde did exactly what it had to do: Protect our Uraeus from getting hit by one of his Sneak attackers. By delaying the first hit on our snake by one we were able to delete more of his backline which ultimately brought us the victory. In the second battle the idea was the same. Unfortunately, the opponent had no Sneak attackers. On the other side the opportunity match set was on which is why Carrion Shade was able to ttack from the last position. It was even able to hit a very important hit which shows that an extra monster on the field can always make the difference!
