This week’s “Share Your Battle” competition is all about the Chaos Knight. In this article I want to explain what makes the Chaos Knight special as it is a very interesting card to play. After that we will discuss the team around it and outline a potential strategy for this type of monster. In the end you will se some example battles where I was able to use the outlined strategy.

Chaos Knight

Like always, lets talk about the star of the article first: the Chaos Knight. A common card from the Life Splinter with the Melee attacking style. It seems like it is nothing special but the ability and stats distribution is what makes a card special. Because it is a common card everybody can play this card in battle since it is part of the base set. The negative things about it is that it costs 6 mana and has only 2 speed and 2 melee damage at level one. Even at the highest level these stats only increase marginally as this card has 3 attack and 3 speed at the level 10. But the main purpose of the card is not to deal damage but to hold your enemies back as long as possible. That is why this card has a very good 3 armor and 4 health at level one. At the final level this card manages to reach 5 armor and 6 health which very solid for a 6 mana cost card. What’s more is that this card has the Shield ability from the beginning. This means that it will only take half the melee and range attack damage which makes it a very solid tank to put in the first place.

Team & Strategy

Because this card is so good at holding back your enemy, we should build our strategy adequately. The first thing we need to think of is how to make this build sustainable, meaning how long can we hold this card in the first position. This only works if we use some supporting cards that are able to heal and repair our tank. For this purpose I always like to use the Venari Crystalsmith. With its healing ability we can juice our tank up and make sure it survives more attacks than normally while destroying the opponents first position monster at the same time. Same goes for Adelade Brightwing. Her ability is the Repair ability and with its 2 magic attack, this card is capable of doing enough damage.

Now that we have chosen our support units we have to think how to deal the most damage to our opponent. The first choice will be to select the summoner. As we are in the Life Splinter I like to chose the new Chaos summoner General Sloan. In my opinion it is not really fair that his summoner is the cheapest one out of the new ones as it has a very nice synergy with a lot of its element cards unlike others. Because life has very good range attackers and General Sloan grants an extra Range attack this is perfect to deal some damage. For this task my two Go-To cards are the Prismologist and Pelacor Arbalest. While the first one shines because of its Explosion ability the second one is able to attack twice a turn. This means that this combination can deal 12 damage in the best case scenario! This can often mean that we delete the opponent’s tank and probably the second position card in 2 turns or less.

Last but not least I’d like to talk about some potential filler cards. Both are Magic attackers and are put in the second or third position. The reason for these cards is the effect. While the first gives an extra health to everyone to second one makes the enemy slower which allows you most of the time to attack first giving you the first mover advantage. Furthermore, these cards can attack from the first position if the Chaos Knight will fall. The two cards I am talking about is Djinn Renova and Time Mage.

Example Battles

With the strategy out of the way, let’s take a look at some practical examples! The first battle is a perfect example of how we are able to hold our opponent back while getting rid of his tanks. This allowed us to be in the position where our range attack monster could still attack while his range attackers had to switch into the first position and were uncappable to attack any more. Same strategy goes for the third battle. It went down to the last few monsters but it was only possible because our tank was able to hold back at least two rounds of attacks! The second battle was something special as it was a low mana battle. Here we chose our strategy but the opponent had an equally strong team. Because of the Shield ability and the tank heal ability we were able to hold back most of the attacks and because his monsters lost the additional attack at the end the win was not in danger anymore.

I hope you could take something away and I was able to bring you a new way of playing the Life Splinter with the Chaos Knight! What about you? What are your situation where you like to use the Chaos Knight and what are your experiences with this card?
