Another week another “Share Your Battle” competition. In this week the theme is all about the Goblin Psychic! Since its release I always had the feeling that this card will be one of the more popular one and I think I was right. At least for my Earth Teams this card can not be thought away, which is why I have plenty battle examples today!
Goblin Psychic
Let’s start this article of with an explanation why the Goblin Psychic is actually a very great card. For starters it is a magic attack card which already gives him a big advantage over most cards since the magic attack style is the most overpowered one in Splinterlands. Not only that but with the new Earth summoner Obsidian you can boost the attack to one more which is very important since the magic attacking style is targeting the health points directly, no matter the armor of the monster. Furthermore, you can position this card anywhere you want on the field which makes its ability more valuable! Its ability is the best part of this card and it is Tank Heal. Already at level one this card has the ability. It gets better with level 7 when it additionally gets the Silence ability which is the perfect counter against other Magic Cards because it reduces the Magic attack of the opponents. What makes this monster a valuable addition is that it is common, meaning that its cost is not so high and everybody is able to use it from the beginning.
When there are so many positive things, then there are some negative things as well. First of all, the cost is 6 mana which is not low, especially not if your battle restrictions allow you a small amount of mana to be used. The next drawback is its relative low health on level 1.This is easily countered by leveling this card up but 3 health on level 1 makes this card an easy target for opportunity monsters which could destroy your strategy as this card is a classic support monster. Last but not least: its speed. With only one speed throughout every level this card is not the fastest, meaning that it is one of the last monsters to make a turn. By this time your tank might already be eliminated which makes the choice of the tank even more important.
Team & Strategy
Now that we talked about the main card, lets take a look how we want to use it. Because it is a magic attack card a magic support summoner like Obsidian is perfect. Not only that, but for the rest of the team it will be crucial as well. Because the Goblin Psychic is a great support card we need cards that need support. My number one card of choice here is Grund or the Mycelic Slipspawn, sometimes even both. Depending on the battle restrictions, you can put one of them in the first position where it will get the tank heal and therefore absorb more damage. Why those two cards? The Slipspawn guarantees to absorb a lot of attacks due to its Taunt ability which also protect any support unit. On the other hand, Grund is just a great tank with a great attacking style and ability.
Now that we have the tank, it all depends on how many mana you have left. Most of the time I like to fil the team up with more magic attack monsters so that I can get the most out of my summoner. Additionally to that I like to put the healthier monsters further into the front because then the chance increases to get the tank heal. A great card to mention here is the Regal Peryton which has a good amount of health and is very hard to hit due to its high speed and flying ability. Another card to mention is Queen Mycella. This card is obviously luxury because of its high price but definitely every penny worth it. Because it gives every monster on your side an extra two armor from the beginning you are basically on top of every opponent who does not use magic attack against you. This can be greatly seen in the battles against the Water Element down below.
Example Battles
The main strategy with this kind of built is to overthrow the opponents tank before he is able to overthrow yours. This is because ethe Earth Splinter does not offer a lot of Sneak attackers but a lot of Magic attackers. With this being said, it is still important to protect the supporting units like the Goblin Psychic so that they can influence the battle towards your side. As we can see down below, even battles against other Earth Splinters can be won due to the correct selection of monsters and the correct positioning. This is a very straight forward strategy which does not require a lot of experience to play it well. This is why I would always recommend to new players to invest some time to try out new strategies which can make them more efficient in the game.
