This week’s “Share Your Battle” is all about the Mycelic Morphoid. In this article we will explore the many forms of this card as well as some use cases to utilize this card. We are going to start of with looking at the card itself. After that, we are going to explore some possible Teams and Strategies. Finally, we will finish this article off with some example battles.
Mycelic Morphoid
Let’s explore the star of this article first. On the basic level this card has not a lot to offer other than being very cheap. But in some occasions this is exactly what we need to win a battle. But let’s start from the beginning. This card is a Earth Element card that brings 2 health, 1 melee damage and 1 speed to the table and like mentioned before is costing only one mana. Furthermore, this card is of common rarity so it is usable by anybody which is a big plus as well.
With this being said, with higher levels this card starts to get more interesting. On the basic level this card has no ability at all, but from level 3 upwards this card gets the Thorns Ability. This is a big deal breaker in my opinion as the Thorns Ability is such a strong weapon as it deals at least one extra damage to your enemies attackers. If you want to learn more about this, check out my last article about this ability (LINK). Anyways, in Silver Leagues this card gets an additional speed which does not seem a lot but can decide in very tight battles. In the Gold Leagues this card gets an additional melee attack which can be deciding as well, but the final form has the most advantages as it has 3 health as well as three speed which is actually very good for a one mana cost card.
Team & Strategy
Now that we spoke about the actual card itself, let’s explore some strategies to use this card with. In general, I like to use this card as puffer. There are several ways to use it as puffer. The obvious way is to put it in the back of your team so that it can protect your units from sneak attacks. This is a very popular strategy especially when this card has the Thorns ability. Another very popular use case would be the protection of Snipe and Opportunity monsters. Because this card has such low health this is the best target to take the hit and protect your support units. The last use case would be a very special one. In an explosive Ruleset every hit creates more damage to the units next to the hit one. That is the perfect place for a puffer such as the Morphoid.
Now that we laid out the perfect placement for the Morphoid, let’s discuss some cards that we will use to win us our battles. The best way to use the Earth Splinter currently is to utilize the magic attackers as the summoner grants you an extra magic attack. My most favorite magic attacker is without a doubt Queen Mycelia because she grants us an additional 2 armor. This extra buff is especially powerful if our enemy utilizes a lot of melee monsters. Another very cool card to use is the Mycelic Slipspawn because of its Taunt ability. This way we can control where our opponent’s attacks will be heading. Two more very powerful magic attackers are the Goblin Psychic because of its tank heal ability as well as Regal Peryton which is very hard to hit due to its high speed and flying ability.
Example Battles
Without further ado let’s jump straight into the example battles. In the first one, my intention was to place the Morphoid as protection against Sneak attacks. Because our opponent did not have any Sneak attackers this plan failed. But let’s remember the use case of Opportunity protection as well. This is exactly what happened in this battle. Because we were able to absorb some damage with the Morphoid we protected our support units and were able to bring the win home.
With the second battle we have the use case of explosion protection. Because we are putting the Morphoid next to the taunted card we are able to absorb a considerable amount of damage again. This means we were able to protect our support units enough to secure the win once again.
