Another week, another “Share Your Battle” competition. In this week we have the honor to play with Pelacor Arbalest, a rare Life Splinter card with some cool use-cases- We will talk about these use-cases, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this card and think trough a strategy when to best play this card. Furthermore, I will introduce you to the cards that I like to use in combination with this interesting card. Last but not least we will take a look at the promised battles, as this is the whole purpose of this competition!

Pelacor Arbalest

First things first, Pelacor Arbalest is a Ranged Attacker with 6 mana cost. For a card that has only 2 speed as well as 2 health, this is a very high price to pay. Because this card has no armor, it is fairly easy to land a hit on this card and basically lose 6 mana in a very important battle. But what are the up turns for this card then? Why should anyone play it? Well, in combination with General Sloan this card gets a Attack boost. Since this card is a Ranged attacker it will have 3 attack on the basic level.

What makes this card so special is his special Ability: Double Strike! This is also the reason why this card is valued so high in terms of mana costs. This card basically is able to deal 6 damage at minimum every turn! Now if this is not a great argument to play this card, I don’t know what is. This is also the reason why I love using this card. Because of its low health, it is obvious that we need to protect this card which is why we will need to talk about the additional cards in the next section.

Before we move to that, we need to cover some of the use-cases when this card is especially powerful. Like I mentioned before, the true power of this card lays in its ability. This is why rulesets like Equalizer where everyone has the same health is very useful for this card. This way it can not get easily snipped as it has a good amount of health on it. But this is not the only use case. On higher levels, this card is excellent for Earthquake battles since it has the Flying Ability. And to top it all off, this card is excellent against armored cards and Divine Shields. Because of the double strike Ability we can distribute the hit points of this card, making it more efficient against the mentioned abilities.

Tanks

Like every powerful card in this game, the Pelacor Arbalest needs to be protected. This is done best with a powerful tank! Depending on the available mana we have three options that I love to play. Keep in mind that most of the time I am only playing one of these cards. First up we have Uriel. This card is just amazing! With the Flying Ability and 3 speed, this card is very hard to hit. On top of that it comes with 6 armor and 10 health! Very hard to get trough but also very expensive to play. For 11 mana you will get this beast of a tank that deals 9 damage every other turn. On the second level he even can heal himself which is why it would makes sense to have him on this level.

Next up we have the Shieldbearer. This card shines with his Taunt Ability. Because of that we are guaranteed to protect any card we want to. With the cost of 8 mana, he is still expensive but worth every single drop because of his 4 armor and 9 health. He is also able to deal some damage but it is obviously not as high as Uriel’s potential. If it comes to a cheap tank version, I think that Chaos Knight is a very good choice. Yes it has only 3 armor and 4 health but because of its Shield Ability it only gets half the damage from Ranged and Melee attackers. This way we can protect our main cards and support cards to deal as much damage as possible!

Support Units

In order to be as efficient as possible with our team, we need to use support units as well. In the following I will present you the three most used support units in the Life Splinter from my side. Each of them has an individual use-case and Ability but I most often use them in combination. First things first, because our damage dealers are not the fastest, I like to even the playing field by using Time Mage. This way we are closer in terms of speed and will not get overrun by first attacking minios. On top of that, the Time Mage can deal some good damage herself which makes this card almost always a must-play.

To compliment our tanks I tend to use a repair card and a healing card in the person of Adelade for repair and the Venari Crystalsmith for the healing part. Both cards have the purpose of keeping our tank as long as possible alive. This way we can deal as much damage as possible and hopefully delete the opponent’s board first. On top of that, both cards are able to deal some damage themselves that should not be neglected in the end and can make a difference!

Example Battles

This brings us to the example battles. This time around I have three different battles with the specific rulesets and different mana requirements. In the first battle we have exactly the use case of the Equalizer. Because of that we are able to have our minions alive for a long time and do not need to fear for potential Snipes. With that being said, we won this battle mainly because we dealt more damage than our opponent and always were able to refresh our tank, which was exactly our strategy from the beginning.

While the first battle was straight up, the second battle had the issue of Divine Shields and an opponent who was playing an additional armor minion. This was looking like a though match in the beginning but because of the double strike ability we were able to cut trough our opponents Shields fairly easy. In the end we won because his Ranged attacker was not able to attack anymore but this is part of the game!

Last but not least we have a very difficult match up against a Magic player. This is again where the Healing Part comes into play. We had a big advantage in terms of health benefits. Because the Ruleset had Poison, and our opponent’s minions started with very low health we were able to defeat him with some precise double strikes. In my opinion one of the best Abilities in the game!
